Interesting photo. The Willys has Skibsted Headers lettered on the hood. A little known but very talented custom header guy from (I believe) the San Fernando Valley somewhere. Anyone know anything about him?
Also that looks like a serious '60 Pontiac wagon racecar in the background. Pretty unusual in itself. Those were great days at Lions.

I would like to post some pictures of the first roadster I built, based in a 10 month series of articles in Car Craft magazine in the late sixties. Plans called for a '23 T body, SBC, Muncie 4-speed, and Corvair coil springs and steering box. This being my first, low-buck effort my Dad and I kept costs down by building our own body and rad shell, used White side-mount semi truck Guide headlights (paid $10 for the pair). I later updated to a glass T body.
I must have been anxious to try it out as you can see in the first picture I had only welded up one side of the SBC headers! The other side was open exhaust right out the head. What a racket that must have made! The passengers in the car were a nun, my religion teacher and my little sis. The next pic is at now defunct Detroit Dragway where it clicked off low 10s at 130+. I sold the car and 30 years later while at the HRR at Bowling Green I spotted it in the parking area. Unmistakable grille shell, headlamps, and my roll bar mounts were still on the frame.
I'm glad nobody died in that wreck. (It actually ran pretty straight and won races)
    Great memories.

And no doubt the good Sister said a quick prayer to St. Christopher, patron saint of travelers ;)

    Hello,

We will start off the New Year with a question. I would like to include this action film I took back in 1959 of a small SBC powered FED race car that was a mainstay in the competition at Lion’s Dragstrip. It competed in the C/Dragster class and sometimes in the D/Dragster classes. But, they were there almost every week. Sometimes it parked next to us and sometimes it was deep in the pits with other coupes and sedans.

SBC powered FED Lion’s Dragstrip 1959

So, if you have an idea, verifiable proof of who it is and owner/motor/driver, etc, it will allow me to use the film in the 1959 portion of the public library files that are coming up soon. You will get contributing confirmation during the public access portion.

    Thank you,

Who is the owner, the driver, the class and power set up?

The smaller motor FED classes have tons of horsepower to get some traction, even with narrow slicks, so popular at the time.

I had that car in my shop in the late 80's. The guy that owned it, wanted me to shorten it up and mount an injected flathead in it. I talked him out of it, and he eventually sold it to the folks that restored it.
