I thought I heard the area where your feet go, the lower part of the firewall, was smaller on the 32's and that is why they try to use a 33 or 34 firewall for more leg room. I could swear I read that some where. This was only on the pickups. Gary M.
That is correct in that a 33-34 truck firewall does offer a fair amount of increased footroom. A 32 firewall is the same for cars and trucks. If I had a 32 cab, I'd put a 33/34 firewall in it posthaste, but that's just me.
Old thread, I am picking up a 32 Ford Pickup. Its going to get a small block. All 32 firewalls were the same. from what I read above. But a 33-34 firewall will fit the pickup. What exactly IS the difference?
Pictures tell the story best, do some research. But basically the ‘33-‘34 firewalls project forward of the cowl (and Commercial Car cowls are shorter) along with a deeper footwell both of which help with the short cab. The later ‘wall is spot welded in as compared to the ‘32 that bolts in and is gasketed.
The difference is the 32 firewall is a single piece that bolts in place, the 33/34 firewall is welded in place. 1932 Ford 33/34 firewall If you intend on using a 33/34 firewall with a 32 frame you will need to make a filler panel in the foot area and drop the "L" shaped mounting brackets to compensate for the rise the 33/34 frames have that the 32's do not have. this is the finished repair.
