Just found this in our local news. Not sure if it has been posted or heard yet. See the link below - http://www.ksl.com/index.php?sid=439961&nid=148 Pretty cool wish I was there to see.
does that still make it official? I'm new to the bonneville and other speed record stuff...do you just need official timing groups there to document it to make it official, or does it have to be only during speedweek?
It's not an SCTA record, which is what you'd get if you set a record during Speed Week or the World Finals, this record is an FIA record, it's an international record. The FIA only gets involved when the big guns with the big wallets run.
When we talked to the JCB crew...they said the car was only running on the front motor...looks like they finally decided to fire up the pair.
When we heard that Andy Green was involved in the project, we knew it was serious. The article mentions that "Green also set the first-ever supersonic world land speed record in 1997 at 763.035 mph." You can read about it here: http://www.roadsters.com/750/ Dave http://www.roadsters.com/
Early in the week (speed week) they ran it and it sounded like crap. I was expecting it to do better on it's first run, as I heard the venture cost 8 million pounds (12 milliom dollars)! They were also saying that they "rented" the salt flats for the whole week after speed week! I wish they would have made an impressive run while I was there. Here is a pic of Andy Green signing some posters for us.
That article is not entirely true. Carl Heap (rip) set a diesel record in 2003 in the 1943 International 18000 lb Phoenix truck at 272.685 with an exit speed around 285. Sure they bested that record but they were concentrated on the 236 streamliner record as the fastest diesel and the record they wanted but it was not the all time fastest. Be safe, go fast, have fun.
Ok, that explains it... To me, when someone says a land speed record was "beaten by more than 100mph" I think Bull Shit! But I thought they were talking about beating that truck by more than 100 mph... I also thought the whole run it for the FIA thing was just to get around stricter rules or something...
"Hi boys and girls. I'm Jimmy Carl Black and I'm the Indian of the group!" For all you fans of the original Mothers of Invention. which, on the HAMB, consists almost entirely of me and Terry C. -85% jimmy
Well no wonder I can't get parts at work from JCB/VibroMax....All the guys are out PLAYING on the salt! HaHaHa!!
Huh? Is it random statement time or am I out of the loop somehow? If it's random statement time then here's mine: ...I have a bellybutton...
not only did they get the record but they did it while digging a drainage ditch!!!! AAAAH! that's why the record.... they must have been on time penalties....
Andy Green told us they were using both and the front one was making normal boost and the rear was not. One of their crew guys explained it as the pipes from the turbo on the front engine were shorter than those going to the rear... and the exhaust was cooler back there and not being used efficiently. They were going to make some adjustments and increase the fuel and try to heat up the longer pipe to try and make the engines run together. Their next run was a 224 mph turnout. I saw they went over 300 later in the week. Good for them. Everyone in their crew was really nice, especially Andy.
for those that were expecting it to run faster during the first few days at speed week (mentioned on here and a buch of times at the salt) they had to do the liscencing runs just like everbody else as andy green has never ran at an scta/bni meet. it was actually kinda a major topic on the salt that they made the worlds fastest man do rookie runs, but i for one am glad they did, afterall they made unser, garlits and all the other big names do the same thing. i've got some good pictures of the car leaving the line but they're on my new camera and i'm having some issues getting them onto the computer. ps. it's kinda weird to be eating you're egg mcmuffen next to andy green at mcdonnalds.

From the BNI site: 989 Chassis Engineering Special C DS 226.591 306.816 Roy A. Lewis A week ago today C.E. set a 306 record on an old 226 record with a single diesel engine. I think it is Cummings powered. Not much hype about it tho.
