i dont know how to make this have the on screen play?? but anyways....ive been gradually getting things fixed on this new roadster i bought and today was carb tuning day it has 2 stromberg 48's on it which is a bit much for the street...i wanted to take a picture of the car and since i had the camera i thought...well why not try this video deal the its really popping and sputtering in the video taking off from the driveway...but that clears up when it gets warm....so anyways...here goes nothing hope you guys enjoy Zach http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVOLZpAugN8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nm7P4QbDjg0
and heres 2 still shots... i put a ford tractor muffler on it and an old RUSCO racing belt...without the belt i end up on the passenger side around left turns
Your car is very cool and its sounds great. ___________________________________________ 29 Roadster 40 Ford coupe
thanks heres a walk around of it idling...spitting and sputtering still....but oh welll zach http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBrUkIoWtp0
Coolest car and ballsiest driver East of the Mississippi!!!! You GO boy!! I love that thing!......looks like it would give my flatty a run for its money!! Brucie
haha when ya stoped by the house today you didn't say you were taking video! nice pics man, we gotta get some more from running in the moutains!
Zach, what great car. Absolutely perfect Hot Rod. I have a 31 chassis with a nice model B banger with an original Riley two port head and dual 97's and plan to put a 29 roadster body on it once I get my coupe done. Looks like a really fun car! I wouldn't change anything! Have Fun, Jim
Great Vids. I think your wrong about the carbs. I found the fluffing when cold is due to a poor ignition.
hey thanks! im just going through things one by one...maybe i'll have to take a closer look at the ignition now i havent touched it at all thanks evel for posting the on screen play thanks Zach
thanks guys, it does sound alright when its all warmed up....i think i am gona go through the ignition soon like 4ever4 mentioned so i can hopefully get a full range of power.... the throttle linkage ratios are all out of wack so ive been working on them trying to get better fluxuation in the gas pedal. it was kinda all or none probably why it spins the tires so much when taking off and shifting no weight+quick pedal+hopped up motor?? it would be good for all out wide open but for street driving its not too great zach
Some random thoughts on tuning the beast: Wico, yes?? I think I have some tuneup info on that. Carbs--if it's not a lot of trouble, run it as single carb til all is good, THEN flog the dual setup. If you're coming to the barn Saturday, I could loan you an olde single manifold. Carbs--'48's have a rep as primitive, slobbering beasts, kinda like stock 850 Holleys nowadays...in any case, they have pretty large and insensitive venturis and you are probably actually running on the off-idle system most of the time. This is gonna require some thgought re idle jets as a tuning factor, perhaps, and likely a Barney Navarro style rework of the pump circuits as you likely have WAY too much pump squirt. The main benefit of dropping to 97's or 81'$ would be more sensitive venturis that would get car running on properly metered gas earlier.
bruce, its not the WICO...this is a mallory distributor...im not sure which model as im at work right now. ive been thinking i need to keep my eyes open for some 97's or 81's all i have are 48's these 2 and 2 others...seem like too much carb even for a v8 the carbs do really leak pretty bad out of all possible places too they didnt have any choke plates in them at first but i put some in now and locked them into place as i dont have a cable or linkage now...didnt have this sputtering without the plates... maybe everythings ok i just need to leave well enough alone and take the plates back out? not that it doesnt need the ignition diagnosed too it took a few minutes till it would idle before but once it did it ran like a top....now with the plates in there locked open it will idle on its own sooner but wont run right till the temp comes up to about 160 on the guage i'll send you a p-m bruce thanks Zach
Hey SUHRsc/zach, Got a couple questions for ya. What's the full specs on your Banger engine? Is it a Model A or Model B Banger? What tranny are you running? How fast do you get up to 30 or 60 mph under...maybe 3/4 throttle? That is a really cool car and it sounds awesome under power. Also, any still shots of the engine yet? Seeing this makes me want to put a done up Banger in a T I want to build rather than a super cheap and common 2.3 OHC.
YES- you want the banger great vids, great car. the only time mine can lay rubber is tight left hand turns That will change soon though
