I saw @nostalgia59 post about his passing late last night.... What sad news :(
Darryl was a great guy. I recall meeting him and @Chuck R at Bonneville in 2008. We'd run in to each other at Bonneville a few more times in the years after and he was always friendly and I enjoyed catching up with him... (as well as staying in touch on social media.)
My condolences to Darryl's friends and family. May he Rest in Peace.

What a shame. Darryl was one of my favorite people. Always enjoyed talking to him whenever I saw him at Bonneville, GNRS, LARS or wherever.
A great guy that put a lot of miles on that coupe in spite of health issues.

Indirectly yes, but we were friends from cars and then found out he was retired from LLNL. I was still working there.

  20. Very sad indeed. Darryl was a great guy, hot rodder and friend. He always looked young for his age, so when he told me he started racing his RPU at Fremont in 1959, I couldn't believe it. During his rectification of his RPU, he gave the bed to us for the BFD drag car that the Livermore Bomb Factory (Tim, Terry, Ron, myself and others) built for the first HAMB drags. Darryl also gave us the front axle for that car. Darryl was that kind of guy. If you needed something, he would give it to you, or help you with it. He was CRAZY about hot rods, and history and put many miles on all of his cars. His garage was always so neat and tidy, with lots of memorabilia from his hot rodding exploits as a kid. Whenever I would have a shin-dig at the house, Darryl was always there... He will be missed.

Darryl was indeed a great guy and he will be missed. He was always there at CA hot rod events no matter what crap life was throwing at him. He always had a smile and a positive attitude.
There will be a memorial for him on February 6 at 1pm at the Pennyweight Brewing Company in Livermore, CA

Today, I attended @derelict 's Memorial held at Pennyweight logo.png in Livermore, CA.

There was a good turnout of Darryl's friends & family ... many sat outside while others congregated upstairs in a VIP room:

... where his son MacKenzie had some of Darryl's memorabilia on display:

There were quite a few "H.A.M.B. Friendly" cars in attendance:

I didn't know him personally, but he was a FB friend. This is a great tribute page to him. May he RIP.

  29. That 5 window was one of, if not the best looking 5 window in the Bay Area. I use to see it everywhere. May he RIP. (PS) Did Tony Lafon’s ‘57 Sedan Delivery get parked in a bad area? What happened to his hubcaps?
