  1. I've been wanting to post this one but first I had to figure out the order of the words.
Once I got the first line, the rest naturally got easier and sorted themselves out.

    More Horses
    Older Money
    Faster Women
    Younger Whiskey

“Having a good measure of self-esteem leaves us free to be task oriented, rather than worth oriented in all that we undertake.”

    Hello,

All through our lives in hot rods and drag racing, modifying cars and coordinating those wants/ needs, it just seemed to fit the way we adapted to what was going to affect our families. If something did not fit or needed another way to make it fit, hot rod/drag race guys/girls adapted to the situation to start the ingenious process that is in most of us. Looking at a problem, identifying what it is and coming up with several ways to complete the task at hand.

If an SBC motor would fit into a small motor compartment, there were ways to add mounts and bolt it right in place. If a 10 percent set back was going to be the main modification, then stepping back and identifying what needed to happen to make the move work was put into play. Of course, planning what was ahead and the obstacles that we had to overcome or modify would solve the problem.
    upload_2022-1-28_4-35-19.png

Learning things like these in a new situation prepared us for what was ahead, without us knowing about it or making a conscious effort to bring it to the forefront. We just did the steps without thinking to make is simple, but efficient and not bothering anyone in the process. Family decisions and the trail to continue led our lives by making those types of plans and following through.

    Jnaki

It was difficult in those early years to set out a plan, but we learned by doing, making some mistakes, absorbing the loss and moving on to the proper way or a new course to get it done.
Someone who did a similar modification may not be the right way for your own build. Things are different, but yet, the same...

So, we were teaching ourselves to be adaptable to any new situation that would affect our family’s lives, like in health issues that seem to plague our whole society, today. We have to adapt to make things better…YRMV

    My mother use to say;

" If the fox didn't stop to shit, he would have caught the fox"

Her way of saying get your chores done if you want to eat or go do fun things.
A lot of truth to that.

“You have given me your trust and restored my faith in love and life… you are my forever.”

    Hello,

In our years together from 1966 to the present, one thing always stayed in my mind. What a catch my wife was in college and during our being together. I could not believe my good fortune and yes, luck. We met in a college class, hung out together from 1966 to the spring of 1967 and I finally asked her to get married on the way to a rock concert in Malibu.
upload_2022-2-4_5-12-4.png It started with this 65 El Camino for 1000’s of miles of fun road trips all over California and Baja, Mexico from 1966 to 1976.

Over the years, I kept pinching myself at my good fortune and vowed not to do anything rash or stupid. But, in 1968, I heard the words above and wanted to fall into a hole. It was such a shock and again I was counting my stars to the official live together days in 1968.

When she made the decision on which hot rod project we were going to have next in our lives, we both agreed on a cool 327 powered 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery. It needed a lot of repairs and replacements to get it to a good safe driving point for the both of us. When I had my old Flathead sedan delivery, it was just me driving and it did not bother me if the hot rod made noises or ran in an unusual way, I could easily get over it with a quick fix.

It wasn’t just me involved in the sedan delivery this time, but now it had a new driver. The need to get it reliable enough for my wife to take the hot rod on the road by herself was the primary goal. She loved driving the sedan delivery and when it got hot in So Cal, she had first dibs on driving it anywhere. The 327 powered sedan delivery just happened to have our first A/C unit in any of our cars.

Something must have aligned the planets and all of our friends. It was meant to be over the long years we have been through thick and thin, along with some shaky times in our twenties, as well as our thirties.

So, yes, we are each other’s “forever…” as it has been 56 years and counting. Hot rod memories, along with growing up together from our 20's was the best for us… YRMV

    I think when I had my 6th '40 Ford, ( a Standard)
My best friend said: "If your gonna own a '40 Standard at least make the hood fit, or leave it home"

    That was a TALL order.

“Sometimes, I have to look back at where I’ve been, so I know where I’m going.”

    Hello,

We have all made mistakes in our long lives. Since explorations during the teenage years, there was always the idea, later on, that “It sure would be nice to have the brains of the experience in old age, along with the body of a 20 something, peak conditioning.”

Running 6 miles over a cross-country course as a daily regiment, playing competitive badminton daily for two hours, several lunch hour basketball games, and weekend, two man indoor volleyball games made college life feel good. Add in some surfing road trips to the Northern California coastline, too. What was I thinking? (Away from home substitutions...)

But as we age, we must look back to see how the travels have come to this point. The mistakes we all made, guided us toward another path and that path led to something else. So, in essence, the past allowed us to try different ways to get it right, while growing up in So Cal or elsewhere.

Some one said I would buy Microsoft back then and now I would be set. Well, we did and when it doubled a couple of times, we sold it for our expenses. If we were able to keep it going until now, we would have a few more dollars in reserve. But, the chances we took back then allowed us to be where we are today. it was the same thing for ibm and apple. Low cost shares allowed us to watch it grow and when it hit doubles a few times, we sold for a hefty profit.

Yes, it would be nice to still have all of the doubles and more shares today, but at the time, it saved our family’s daily minimal lifestyle.

Much like an old hot rod. It was very cool to cruise around So Cal coastal cities in my 1940 Flathead powered Ford Sedan Delivery for thousands of miles, learning new things and experiencing the times. But, as things progress, we could not afford to keep it in storage, so, one went away to supplement a new adventure.

And the “hits keep coming..." New experiences and ways to cope with the pandemic takes center stage. The extended family life is enough to see our history and how it has affected this current day crisis.

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”

    Hello,

The ups and downs of growing up as a teenager. Learn by seeing and doing, mistakes abound, but something will come up as a result. Adjustment to any situation is a major part of moving on in life, as we get up into high school and start our long journey.

    upload_2022-2-18_4-26-39.png
Exploration was the key, as that way we learned as each experience comes and does what it does, then moves on to the next episode. From those times, we have learned how to adjust to the situation and it should have positive results from the action taken. If not, then another learning experience comes to light.

As we get through plenty of those teenage adventures and experiences, now, it becomes the time to do better as we gain more knowledge. We then become a part of improving society as it should be for all of us and our families.

It is simple and easy to adapt to all situations for the betterment of your own choices. But also, for all of our neighbors, extended families, especially the “old folks…” like us…YRMV
