I ran across a pretty rough 37 Packard Business Coupe for sale. It would take a LOT of work but it just looks pretty cool to me. What say the HAMB? Yah or Nay? Do these make cool hot rod cruisers? What would be biggest problem in building one besides finding exterior parts? I think this is a Model 120 and the 36-39's were pretty typical much the same.

Here is one that is for sale just for reference pictures.

Back in the mid seventies my friend had a 37 3window jade green with black naugahyde interior and 275 hp 327 with a stick and 5.13 gears. It was very cool. The 110 would be the one to have.

As a custom I think I'd love it. But I can't see it as a hot rod with mag wheels or whatever. They're huge.

On the basis of hot rod criteria being light body + large/powerful engine, not so much.
    Cruiser, nice.
    Early style custom. Very nice.

    Only 2 things to consider...
Do YOU think it's cool rod material?
And are you prepared to take on a "rough" project?

I actually want a rough project. I like doing the metal work and fabrication. I'm always on the lookout for my next project. That's why this one caught my attention.

Do it! They're not common but I think they look great. Chances are slim that you'll run into another one at a car show.

    Cool cars for sure!
Is it possible to see some pictures of how rough the Packard is currently?

  13. I see it as a “formal” hot rod. Cl***y, stockish outside updated power and mechanicals

    That's my idea, too.

Not the worst shape but still, lots of work to be done. Don't know yet if they have all the headlights, etc. Price is too high. I'm just lusting right now.

Little over my budget. A ton of torque with the 8 but that might be gone. 120’s are heavy too but it would be great a little down in front and modern running gear..

That's a nice enough car to start working with. I would think should be half the asking price or less. Packard people like the bigger cars, so little interest from most of them.

Pretty sure I know where a rough one may be if you decide you want one.

I worked on a convertible on an off for a few years. You need to be in love with the thing, I was being paid but have had more enjoyment hanging sheetrock and taping it.

Back around '64 I saw one of these fitted out with a 392 Hemi and push-****on TorqueFlite,
but it was priced well beyond my lawn mowing income. Another cool ride that got away.

any 30s coupe has the cool factor,,,,,

  22. Missing trim parts, etc. will be hard to find and $$$, but a cool car when finished.

  23. That would be so cool done up as a cl***y custom ride .

if you need all the stock trim , chrome etc. It will get expensive in a hurry. Either way it looks to be in decent shape .

Shiny paint all the way !!

There is something about having a non belly ****on vehicle that intrigues me. This fits that category. Do it.

Could be very cool. If you went Lincoln drive train/mild custom cruiser. My dad drove Packards & i remember their slogan : "ask the man who owns one". If you'll like it, DO IT.
