Yeah exactly, that's why I couched it in those terms, what about people who don't put any miles on their ride ? He didn't budge. Just kept saying "Every 3 months". Now it is true one of the problems in older iron or neglected engines is sludged up loaded up crankcase oil. The detergents or dispersants keep that shit in suspension to be drained away instead of fouling the innards, valvetrain and pan.
If you buy it by the 3/gallon it works out to be $4.80/quart. If you get it in quarts the price is $5.24/quart. When paying 19.99/6qt case it is $3.31/quart......
I also like buying it on amazon because it comes in individual quart bottles. At the local parts store anymore they only sell the 5 quart jugs. I hate using those, I can never tell how much I've put in, the site glass on the side of the jug is a joke.
Anyone want to send a sample of the fresh oil to me I'll have it analyzed and post the results here. PM me if interested. Note, I'll also have a sample of your used oil analyzed for you so we can see how it holds up over time. Let me know.
You going to stock up? Where are you going to store it? We know the kitchen is already full of spark plug wires.
hard to say, Amazon owns Woot and uses it as a dumping ground of sorts to fire sale leftover stock and such, if you are a prime member your free shipping works on Woot also
Amazon had VR1 on sale for $20 a case of 6 qts. of the 20w-50w, but also had 10w-30w VR1 on for $30 a case of 6 qts. with free shipping. I use it in my roller SBC engine, and ordered 3 cases. But I went back to order more and it was sold out.
Most of you guys don't need 20W-50, make sure to use the 10w-30 variant. Remember most of our era correct engines were lubed with SAE 20(SAE 30 during the summer months). As bad ass as a set of headers and intake makes our flatheads and stovebolts sound, they are still mostly 'lo-po' engines. Don't waste part of that 60-150 HP on pumping overly thick oil that adds no better protection. With the lid off, put some light down it, this will illuminate the interior of the jug and you will see the site line and oil level easy.
