Why is it that when you quit driving a car that you have to pull the aircleaner off?

Didn't you get the rule book when you registered your first car?

You are also supposed to take the radiator cap off to. If you have a detail fetish you can take off the upper radiator hose as well.

Simple....so the non-mechanically inclined owner can assess the reason for it not running, doesn't see anything wrong and then decides it probably can't be fixed. Job done, time for another beer.

It's right underneath 'leave windows partly down' in the rule book Hillbilly Werewolf mentioned

Easiest thing to steal, no tools required. Also why there are a shitload of radios and shifters that don't have any knobs on them. Horn ring comes in fourth.

Hell, ya can't even talk people into simply putting a rag over an open intake manifold sitting on a operable car INDOORS!
But they always seem to find time to cry "how do I get a 5/16-24 nut out of my engine"?

  13. There’s an O/T muscle car that’s been sitting for years at a storage yard not to far from me. The car looks to be in decent shape ….WITH TJE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW DOWN !!!!!!!

wtf !!!!! It’s been like that for the 6 years I’ve known about it , every time I drive by it ( once or twice a week ). I want to stop and tape a garbage bag over the window !!!!!

Wtf !! The owner is PAYING to store the car and have it slowly disintegrate!!!

    boggles my mind .

Last Hemi I got had the air cleaner still on. I thought home run but the fuel pump was removed and the mice were nesting in the block for 30 years.

You have to open the hood and remove the air cleaner so it's soul can escape.

Always wonder how many of 'em only had 3 bad plug wires or burnt-out ignition points.....and got tossed.

All joking aside. Truth being said, the vehicle has been setting a while and did not start up on the first attempt. The owner then went to start the engine with the air cleaner off, so that starter fluid could be used. Yet to no avail, the engine did not start. Then, what ever the next step to make the engine run never happened, and the air cleaner simply never got put back on.

Make sure to stuff as many junk tires as possible in the trunk too. So the next poor sod has to deal with them.

Of course it's had a complete rebuild. I call them 'Dulux (insert any local enamel paint brand) refit' engines. Washed down, painted up.
