Started looking for some cheap steel 16x7 wheels to go on a project car to help move and also help with mock up. Rather get a cheap set and measure correctly before I get the wheels I want.
I thought GM had several cars with 16” steel wheels but researching shows all of those cars I thought actually only at 15” wheels. Did GM actually use 16x7 wheels? Anyone use import steel wheels and actually fit 5x4.75?

As far as I know Chevrolet never offered a 5 on 4-3/4 16 inch wheel on anything before the Moriarity says "ah hell no" wide 16s came out for the wide low profile tires in the ??s Not even sedan deliveries as far as I know.
I looked at several years on the GM Heritage archives starting with 49 the first 5 on 4-3/4 bolt pattern (48 are 6 lug) and they only had 15 inch wheels.

Best I can say before you get ready to pony up the coin for aftermarket wheels is to get a set of 15 inch rollers and find some roller tires that are the same od as the 16 inch tires you want to run and use those to build around.

46chevy truck. I have some take off tires that are 16” so I was trying to find some cheap 16” wheels. Might have to just throw the tires away and get some cheap 15” wheels/tires as some donor setup.

I do plan on running 16” wheels when I get it running, figured 16” would help me figure out correct offset and such.

I'm going to assume that he wants to run skinny wheels and 16 inch Bias tires to get "the look".

if you use wheels like they used on cars and trucks in the past 30 years, the offset will be quite different from old wheels.

Stick with old 15" wheels, unless you have your eyes on a specific 16" wheel that you want to run, and will look right on the build.

I missed that part, and true there. I was thinking 5 or 5-1/2 at the widest.
I don't think that Chevy ever made a decent looking 16 inch wheel for the later rigs that had them. Normally they have a lot of holes in them but might pass if he is planning on running vintage 16 inch full hubcaps.

Space saver spares were 4 to 4-1/2” wide. …..

Agreed, if its just for rolling around I'd get some space-savers, then you could get them 'banded' to suit size and offset down the line?
