Quadrajet was '66 only. Those manifolds are a little hard to find and can be pricey for what they are. But those and the stock 4x2 are 2 of the best manifolds for those engines.

There were only a couple of single 4 barrel aluminum manifolds made for the big Nailhead. About the best streetable intake is the '66 Quadrajet intake. Remember these engine like a lot of carb, really. The hot setup is the '66 manifold and a '71 850cfm Quadrajet. If you run a squarebore (Edelbrock/Carter) they like the 750. You can get decent mileage with the 4x2 running a set of 500's progressive.

Richard, sweet car!!! I got a friend in Mass that has one with a 425. We took off the single 4 bbl and put on dual quads 2 years ago. He may have some stuff left over and I'll be up there in about 1.5 weeks. PM me if you want me to check. Nailheads are cool!!!

what your pointing to is the kickdown switch for the 400 trans. They dont use a cable or linkage to make the tranny kick down when you floor it but an electric solenoid instead. This switch operates it. There should be a micro switch on the arm coming off of the accelerator pedal where the back end of the carb linkage hooks up. That will be the switch that operates the switch pitch converter.

  6. Kid in a Grand National pulled up next to me at a light today. He didn't say any thing, just gave me that look. I said, "Yeah, it's got a Nailhead"

  7. My '65 GS drove like no other car I've driven. With the cruciform frame and GS ride height and the 425 dual quads, it was a weird combo of smooth power and brute force. I always had to watch the speedo on that thing because it was so smooth you never felt like you were going fast. I've been in Caddy's or other big cars like that, but this was different. When you stepped on it, you got this firm, confident sturdy feeling, not floaty like a Cad. And it would sneak up on 100mph more smoothly than any car I've driven. It's hard to describe, you just have to experience it.

Where is your shop located Richard? Jack

  10. It's just the garage behind my house in Texas City. Come have a beer sometime.

  11. Nice car Richard, 65 are custom form the factory and with some lowering they are perfect. Not realy any need to do more.

I miss my old 64 Riviera. That was a great driving car. It had a 65 fornt end swapped on before I got it. Just a 401 and ST400, but it had plenty of power for driving and freeway cruising. Drove it all the way from TX to CA when I moved here.

I also bought Stoner's old supercharged 63 Riviera, but never got it running fully. Had a centrifugal blower adapted to the engine. I bought it broken engine and fixed it, although the head casting was ported too thin and it broke out, causing a huge coolant leak into the exhaust. It had a nice SP-400 trans. Sold the supercharged Rivi to Ray on here. I believe he is running the car without the blower for now while he builds up a nice blower-ready engine, since I sold to him with the fucked up one.

I will have another 64 or 65 Riviera someday. 63 have the dynaslow trans that sucks, unless you find one that has been swapped over to a ST400 or SP400.

  12. This is an old thread, but I thought I'd put up a couple pics with the surface rust removed, and the fixed upholstery. Still not shiney; maybe by next Roundup.

  13. Nice ride. I am starting to like the '63-'64s as much as the '65s. Why can't I have one of each?

I got my wife looking at '65 Rivs, she really likes the look. Saw a really nice one this year at the Showdown. This is a perfect excuse to buy another car! (Look, honey, I bought YOU a car!)

I remember following this Rivi back into town from LSRU one year back then and it had a huge CB antenna on it..? I recognized it from here .

  18. Haha yeah, but that was not a CB antenna, it was the original(?)power radio antenna, I could let all the air out of the suspension and I swear it would still go up and touch the carport. Antenna was shaved when the car was painted. Had a lot of fun in that car, but Louioe's dad is in his 80s now and always wanted the car, so he is going to build it for him and "keep it in the family". I got some cash for my '54 F100 project, and a Harley Shovelhead in an old weld-on hardtail mess of a frame, that will become a Himsl trike someday...

  22. She had a rod knocking and a wrinkled fender, and after sitting for a few years under a damp carport, developed some rust. It was time to let her go.
