I bribed the guard and snuck down the elevator shaft! haha…they let you go down in the “vault” for a $25 ticket. The guy said “we’re supposed to tell you to not take pictures down here but just be discreet and it’s ok.” and Dan…it’s the third time I’ve seen it in person, but it would be well worth the plane ticket to fly out there just to see the McGee roadster in the basement of a museum. Just saying
Last time I was at the Peterson was 2007. I don’t recall them offering the tour of the basement then, but I was quite poor in 2007 so maybe I passed on it. The LA Roadster show is my favorite. If I planned a trip it’d be around that event.
... Here's some pics of the late Lewis Wolff's '32 roadster that was built in the early 60's .. which is also the last time it ran until last week ... His niece had it trailered over to a compentent auto repair shop locally and other than some leaking carbs it fired right up! ... It was on dislay at the Gilmore Museum at few years ago ... ... I hear that it will going to a future Mecum auction soon ...
here is my freind Ed Wards 32 roadster, he owned it since 1958, he only drove it 1 year then pulled the motor out for an upgrade and never finished, when i met him we talked him into putting a flatty back into it, i ended up doing a full mechanical resto on the car.
Wow! That's a long time for the car to sit. It would be cool if he can go back to the location in the first photo and take a picture in the exact spot with him in the car. A before and after picture.
