We were in need of some WWW tires for a project at work. We called up our usual tire vendor, who is one of the big names in WWWs, to order up a set. The man on the phone told our guy that it would be atleast two weeks so our guy told him thanks but no thanks because we need them sooner that that. So Mr. Big Name tire vendor says "For an aditional $50, I can put you on the top of the list." WTF!?! This wasn't just some sleazy guy at a local store. This was a big name vendor. Needless to say, we won't be dealing with them again.
That is what this board is for so we can help each other. A name would be very helpful. <---------------<<<<
Question is, is that company policy or some phone order dude looking to slip a little something extra into his pocket? I would consider contacting the owner/manager of that tire shack. That sort of activity will be bring a good company down fast and he/she might like to know.
It is. I didn't want to name names, but apperently we're not the only people to have this kind of issue with Diamondback. We ended up ordering through Kelsey tire, the lady was very nice, and we had our tires in two days.
Your an Alliance member, why not go with Coker? I had Cokers on one car before I got a set of Diamond backs for a nother car. DB was able to get me a slightly larger white wall, but once I got them, I decided that the tires dont look as good as cokers. Coker is made to be a white wall tire from the start, db is an afterthought. They dont seem to be a very large company (which is fine with me), the same guy seems to answer the phone every time it seems, he may be the owner. Whoever it was, his sales tactics ****. With some of the negative press DB has gotten around here, and the Aliance Member discount from Coker, DB is going to start having a hard time selling tires around these parts.
I just got WWW from DB. They told be about 2 weeks, and it was 2 weeks to the day. 4 of the those days they where on the truck being shipped to me. With tracking number I could follow progress across the country. When I read the catalog, they said some or most tires are made when you order, so you don't buy tires that are already years old. I also knew I needed tires long before I ordered, so I just blamed myself for not getting them sooner. It all seems reasonable to me, that it takes a little longer for a specialty tire company with so many sizes to offer. But I suppose I could have not bought from them, gone to my corner tire store and bought skinny whites, right? Who needs specialty tire companies anyway. And as far as the $50, if you don't want to get in line, you should pay more if means it takes longer to get my tires, it's called a rush charge so everyone doesn't say I need them today, just those that absolutely positively need them now and are willing to pay. But don't listen to me, I don't know anything.
Aside from my Alliance discount, we also get a professional discount on teh Cokers at the shop, and they would have been my first choice. The customer was dead set against Cokers because of their blow out problems a few years back(which has since been fixed and is no longer an issue).
Kelsey had Goodyears to us in only two days, using their standard shipping(and were very pleasent to deal with at that)
Wallace Wade Tires in Dallas is great to work with from my past couple of transactions. They have it all and are very kool people. http://www.wallacewade.com/
Well maybe I'm further away. So you got the tires you wanted? Are you happy with them? I'm not being smart here. I'm just asking.
i've used lucas automotive for years with no problems........plus i'm too cheap to ship.... www.lucascl***ictires.com
One of my best friends that bought Coker wide whites for his 50 Ford and when one of them required 8 ounces to balance Coker told him that it was normal and their was nothing they could do for him, after that and the bleed through on the white wall he couldn’t get rid of he gave up and said he would never buy from them again. I owned a tire and alignment shop for 13 years before I went to work at the space center and if a tire I sold took more than 4 ounces I would send it back to the distributor and not stick one of my customers with it. His problems make me scared of Coker’s wide white walls
I had a good experience with Universal Tire in PA. Got 4 Denman's in 4 days. From PA to CA, that's pretty good. Reasonable shipping considering they're heavy 8 ply's.
Diamondback is actually a HAMB member & i'm sure he'd be interested to see this kind of bs from within his business! Unless it was him of course ;-) Kev.
I ran into the same thing when I put the DB's on the panel. I needed them quick and they had what I wanted, so I bucked up and paid the $50. In the end I had the tires I wanted under my *** in about 3 days & IIRC there never was a gun to my head.
\ Blow out problems?......Now i had heard rumors of that...Is it something they've admitted to?...If so, do they have serial numbers?
I found that pretty interesting too. The guy who bought my old '39 had a right rear blow out on his way to Americruise this year. It had Coker bias WWW & Chrome reverse wheels that I bought from Coker spring of '05. They only had about 5k miles on them when I sold the car last November.
In our helmet business we do offer a 100 dollar rush charge. BUT! we bump no one to do it. I give my guys the Hundred bucks and we work over to get it done. Just adding my two cents.
I agree with you hat man. I ordered mine, same thing. They told me how long it would be up front. Actually long before I ordered I saw in thier catalog and website that they request 2 weeks before delivery. I was prepared, ordered before I needed them, and I had them exactly when they promised. And just like you said, they are made to order, and I'd rather wait and get fresh tires than get ones that have been sitting for who knows how long. Thier staff was very friendly when I ordered, and we chatted about cars for a bit. I'd buy from them again.
