Obviously a Mark II Continental or the mid 60's Suicide Door Lincolns are about as good as it gets. But, there is something about the absolutely over-the-top garish styling of a 1958 Premiere that appeals to me.
looks like i got my '53 cosmopolitan HT just in time for the anniversary. It takes up a lot of space in the garage usually designated for my baby lincolns (model A fords)
Yup, even the '58 Continental was technically it's own brand. Not to be a **** about it or anything, but the car in the lead photo is not a Lincoln. There's few Lincolns from the 60's back that I dislike, but I really do like the early Zephyrs and the canted quad 58-60 models, and I wouldn't kick a 56-57 2 door hardtop out of the garage, either.
When I got married my late father in law was a Lincoln lover. Every couple years he would have another of those big 4 door sedans. He drove them around his small Nebraska town like he was driving a tank. It was my first exposure to the Lincoln. They were magnificent cars in their day.
I have a friend who has had many Lincolns through his 93 years, hung on to a few, including this 48 Continental. This shot is from '55, it's now in the barn in the background.
You are correct- That's why I didn't label the model a 'Lincoln' Continental Mark II, but the Continental cars are considered an integral part of Lincoln's legacy, built in Lincoln plants and were sold exclusively at Lincoln Dealerships... So yeah, part of Lincoln's birthday party.
Except for the fact that the Mark II was NOT built in Lincoln plants but rather at their own facility, Allen Park Body and ***embly in Allen Park MI.
Regardless if it is a "true" Lincoln or not, the Mark II is one of the most beautiful and desirable cars ever made!
