These single axle tractors were a popular replacement for the horses in steam pumper fire apparatus...

The 1887, the LAFD purchased a horse drawn Water Tower,
    images (3).jpg
Which eventually led to adding a single axle tractor around 1910 to pull the much modified trailer,
    images (1).jpg
Which ultimately replaced the ladder on this aerial ladder truck in 1937 to bring it up to date, or at least up to the early 1940's. The LAFD never purchased a new water tower. The water tower worked fine on fires in lumber yards, but less than fine in buildings. If I recall, the water tower put so much water in a 6-story building that the floor collapsed, followed by the rest of the building...

Thanks for taking the time to post some very interesting photos, I enjoy seeing the older architecture and of course the vehicles.

That tunnel is about the only way to get through the Windsor /Detroit border right now with the Truck convoy blocking the bridge right now.

From 60-64 a lot sold.. 65-67 not too much because of some a..h… gone pretty quickly. Big time oil leakers for the most part due to lack of maintenance. Never on my dance card….. working at a Sears auto center they were right near other POS.
