How about some After and Before shots of the 1936 Ford Flathead V8 clean up and detail work? The heads, intake, carbs, all went through the vapor blast cabinet, and Federal Mogul “Thermo-flow” heads came out super nice with their two piece Bronze and Aluminum combo. Still waiting on a few items like new plug whites and plugs, new air horns, and I maybe switching all the yellow cad bolts to stainless allen head when they come in, but just a color change of the block and some elbow grease cleanup made a Huge Difference. This motor setup is in a 1940 Boyce & Son’s “PODH” Hydroplane race boat, which is the only one left of the four hydroplanes they built.
I like it all, but it personally wouldn't put Allen head bolts on it. You could replace the yellow zinc with regular headed stainless.
Could you explain the cooling system on this setup? Is it running off lake water with electric pumps or an enclosed system with mechanical pumps and a radiator?
It has a belt driven Marine Pump that pulls water out of the lake and pushes it through the motor, and the exits out the exhaust in those copper tubes coming out of the front of the heads. This boat is one of four Hydroplane race boats built by Boyce & Son’s in 1940, and the only one know to still be out there.
This is the test run of the boat after it’s long storage, and before the current refresh, but the Flathead was refreshed 15 years ago with about 10 hours on it.
