have a new camshaft that I removed from a fresh 396 engine. The numbers on the end are as follows 5536 and A145C from what I figure it is a L88 big block chevy camshaft. My question were these made as solid lifter only, and if not how can you tell if its a solid or hydraulic style. No lifters came with the short block
Thanks guys. i am fairly sure that it is a L88 cam after researching the numbers, it was new in this 396 so i took it out and bought a milder hydraulic cam for street use. Not sure if I will ever use it, but I might hang onto it for awhile. Thanks again
I ran an L88 cam in a 396 powered stock car and liked it a bunch. It had a decent idle and would get us past the cam rule.. at least not warrant a check at the track.
I had an L88 cam in my 69 L78 SS 396 Chevelle/w M22 "Rock Crusher" 4-speed. It had a very rough idle (rump, rump), but smoothed out where driveability on the street was not a problem. It did leave a raw-gas smell in the garage and rubber wherever it went. In other words, it was fun.
