New to the H.A.M.B., and also pretty new to having a "classic" vehicle! I've always been into custom cars and trucks- used to get in trouble for reading Hot VWs in Sophomore English class! From VWs, I got into minitrucks. First ride was an '86 Mazda B2000 (Long Bed, no less!), that was dropped the wrong way on chrome Pathfinder wheels. (picture taken June 1995) When the whole Import/ Rice scene hit, I ended up falling in love with Datsun 510s. I've owned around 15 of them, and I always loved the simplicity of older cars. After owning a string of Datsuns and minitrucks, I finally got something that should be at least partially accepted on this board: a 1965 Mercury Comet! It belonged to my boss' father before he passed away, and had been sitting in a garage since 1997. Since picking it up in 2003, I've put in a new motor (289, 302 heads, lopey cam, gear drive, etc.), had the C4 rebuilt, replaced all the brakes, hoses, and bearings, and patched up a giant hole in the passenger floor! I've been trying to keep it as period-ish correct as possible, and it's really hard to do! The company I work for is big in the late model truck scene- big rims, lots of billet, etc., so this is a bit of a departure from what we're used to. I HAVE made one concession to the new-school- the Comet HAD to be on airbags! It's still not low enough, but we're on the right track... (picture taken August 2006) Let's see, other than that, I'm 29 years old, married with three boys, got a couple of dogs, and that's about it. Maybe I can put an "Introduction Addendum" if I come up with something else of note, but that should give you an idea as to who I am. Looking forward to gleaning as much information from these pages as I can- hopefully I can find some areas to contribute, as well! Regards, Phil at FBI
I was hoping you'd get a kick out of that! I took a bunch of pictures of that Mazda- I thought it was the best thing going back then! I remember one of the school patrols running after me as I left one day- I stopped and looked back, and she was holding one of my torsion bars!! "Just throw it in the bed!!"
