Attached a picture for reference...what 6AN fitting would be used here? The piece is not long enough for any sort of compression fittings...what do I do/buy?
That is a hose ******, not sure any AN fitting would work there. Get one of these, then you'll have options for fittings. Bonus is that you can take the pump apart and re-clock the inlet and outlet.
I was trying to avoid buying a new pump when nothing is wrong with this one...but the ability to clock it is something I could also use. I was seeing if there is an option out there I was missing. I have everything finished except this part.
There's is a hard-line to a/n conversion fitting , I think its a ferrule type fitting , if that ****** is the same size as 3/8" hard-line , you might be able to trim the retention bead off & be set up to go. You may find that fittings cost is as much as that pump also , something to considered .
That was my plan as I did this elsewhere already with the steel lines. However, after the bend there is not enough line to seat...fittings are too long. Especially after you trim it down alittle.
By the time that you figure out what to do, then spend the time, money and effort, would it not just be easier to buy a pump with 3/8" NPT inlet and outlet locations ? Then buy your 3/8 NPT by -6AN fittings and screw them in place. Mike
On all old cars I have had there was a rubber hose from the steel fuel line to the pump stock...it's there to absorb engine vibration which would crack the steel line...That looks like the inlet to me and the outlet would have a hard line to the carb....
NPT (Male) to AN6 (6AN female) is available otherwise a hose with NPT to barbed end for hose or cut off flare and use a compression fitting on tube to attach hose or tube.
Earls, Russell ,Aeroquip ,Parker , Eaton, Aviation & beverage /refrigerant pluming .. If you find / see a full line catalog, fittings $20-$40 each typical price, not seen unless you have a part # otherwise, ( specially fittings / adapters) Gm made many configurations on inlet and outlet fuel pumps ,If you do not want a Clockable Holley or Ext brand because to big, Stay away from Airtex fuel pumps , diaphragms go bad / bad off shelf . There are also tight radius tube benders, cheap ones $100 up One size specific. Don't For get GM Chevy style straight 6 , SB & BB can be used
Thanks everyone. Sounds like the easiest solution is to buy a new pump that you can clock. Still surprised out of the 1000s of AN fittings, one wasn't made for this.
Maybe a smidgen hanky, but what about one of those fake AN fittings with the hose clamp inside if you are so set on using that pump.
I used a stock BB vett tri power pump , One 3/8 line pulling from top of tank in rear , Two 550 cfm's Holley 2bbl carbs ,700 hp 6:40 1/8 @ 100-104 mph Street & drag data logged both flow & presser .
What are you trying to gain with an AN fitting that a section of rubber hose wouldn't accomplish, some fuel injection rubber hose has 90 degree bends ?
member: 2398"]What are you trying to gain with an AN fitting that a section of rubber hose wouldn't accomplish, some fuel injection rubber hose has 90 degree bends ?[/QUOTE] Not trying to 'gain' anything. Simply to finish the look since all my lines are done now. Was just weird to me that with all the fittings out there, there's not one for this since it's very common. Kevin pointed out exactly what I needed for little money. When I want to go about changing the FP that will be the next route.
Those cheap knock off AN fittings are prone to Crack & not SAE sizes , in add they say list as 4,6,8,10 & so on , they are not , Metric and sometime not even metric.. If you have access to a Tig you can do a lot of things.
I am running Chevrolet Performance fuel pump #12355612 on my SBC. Not inexpensive, but I have about 40k miles on it without a problem. These are becoming hard to find. https://edrinkeperformance.com/fuel-pump-street-performance-small-block/12355612 https://www.karlkustoms.com/product/12355612-street-performance-fuel-pump-small-blocks/
Weld on AN tank fittings are inexpensive. Whittle away any unnecessary material and silver solder to the tube. I've done that with the feed and return on a 32 tank - I've installed flexible tails which hook up to the lines further forward as there's no access through the trunk floor. Chris
Check with your local hydraulics shop; they might have a compression fitting that will fit. I was able to get a couple of compression to AN-6 fittings to run some AN-6 teflon hose for a power steering hose.
This was suggested and the attached is what i went for to finish the 'look' only mine are all black. Fixed my issue and besides the braided line, is how I always had it with a rubber hose. So until I replace the fuel pump with a clockable one and proper npt AN fittings, this is perfect. $12 fix vs $100 FP kit... As always a solution was found thanks to this site. Thanks for all the input.
