I know this thread is 8 years cold, but I have some new information to ad.
My father in his late teens, who is 97 years old now, traveled from San Diego with some buddies up to "HARPER" and took these 4 photos of the Proulx Bros "Modified" at a meet held at Harper Dry Lake in 1941. I'm sure this is the same car that's being discussed on this thread. In the one photo you can see the modified is connected to a tow bar, so the owners flat towed it to the meet from San Diego.
Judging by the way everyone is bundled up and the length of the shadows in some of the pics its cold out there. That would suggest morning or afternoon in late spring or early fall in 1941 before the **** hit the fan and a lot of these guys put their lives on hold to go off to war. A lot of people asking if the old guys that were there on the lakes pre-WWII could recount their experiences from then, but I will tell you that if a person was born in the mid 1920's they are just a few years shy of turning 100 years old. Not many of the old guys left around and the memory is there on some days and on others it is not, and sometimes something triggers a memory of the past, the lights come on and things get described in great detail. If you are fortunate to be there there during one of those moments take notes, record it or remember it verbatim that's the only way this history gets preserved and p***ed on.
I have a few more photos of that day at Harper.

    ENJOY!

    Wow! Those pictures are incredible!
What amazes me is that this car is so well finished and still somehow fell thru the cracks and disappeared!

Look at the Deuce shell, all cut down and filled, inc a well done grille. The quality of those sweeping headers...just beautiful! The front suspension, Deuce heavy axle by the looks of it, but wheres the spring? Is it now hanging from the split bones? I'm thinking thats radical back then...a departure from the 3 springer line of thinking that was common at the time. (Could be wrong...I'm not an historian...just very interested!) We see the body was narrowed as expected.
    What a machine it is!

It seems any clear picture of the Proulx Bro's T brings up a list of new questions on this fine little Modified.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post these pictures PMD406. ANY other pictures you have relating to this or other Hot Rods or events would be greatly appreciated here.

If theres anywhere that supports the old ways and times of Hot Rodding its this place! :D

You and the good folks at the H.A.M.B are welcome.
As a child I vaguely remember seeing a saved LIFE magazine article from the late '30s/early '40s that covered the Southern California street racing and dry lakes scene and I almost want to say the Proulx modified was pictured in that article "but now I might be mistaken......"
I'm still going through old family photos and as I run across the dry lakes and dirt track stuff, I'll post it up on a new thread and link it to this one. Some real gems to be sure and some pics of cars with a date and location but no ID.
Now that I am retired, I have all this spare time to do this.........yeah right! LOL
The bulk of the photos will be uploaded to the San Diego Racing Museum.

It is a donation run site run by the Chenowth family that covers motorsports in the San Diego County /Southern California & Baja California region. Lots of great photos & written history there dating back to the very early 1900's.

@PMD406 first time I've seen this Thread let alone your incredible update...

Your fairly new here. Welcome. Please extend a warm hello and thank you from all of us to your Father...who was there...in the thick of it at as you alluded such a critical moment in so many ways. That pic this Thread was formed around I have seen and shared countless times...you highlight why this site the Hamb is an incredibly valuable constantly evolving historical reference. The fact your getting this history to a place where it can be further preserved is absolutely admirable...thank you...

Just curious about Dad and his buddies, Hotrodders, Customizer's, or just loving the Culture and wanting to be part of it...We'd love to see the extended story and I did see your planning on a more diverse Thread...That's absolutely fantastic.

I just wanted to thank you, your dad and his buddies...because we are in inspiration living the greatness they experienced and the Hamb is an important spoke in that wheel...so glad you found it...;)
