Some fat fender Nerfs. reposted The Sam Foose ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ 41 has been posted here many times. Very subtle custom
That is to me one of the simplest and yet most beautiful pieces of work I have seen on that F1 Ford yet. Beautiful front end. Nice job!!! Would love to see the whole truck.
The very first '46 cars were sent to the dealers with 2x6 wood bumpers. War material shortages, ya know. You would get a notice from the dealer when your bumpers came in. Just a little history.....
What about chrome vinyl wrap? Grind down your bumpers so they're smooth, fill the rough spots with body filler, make 'em smooth and then go get them wrapped. May tie you over for the time being and its a whole bunch cheaper
When I got my ‘47 Ford coupe it had a lovely 4x12 wooden bumper, it was a tow/service vehicle for a Shell station. That monster was the first thing to go. Mine was a g***er so, no front bumper. I would just take it to the plater and see what they say about it’s condition and cost to repair it. Our local shop isn’t dirt cheap but fair and the cost includes straightening and small repairs. It looks like you are a ways away from needing fresh bumpers though, so if you really want the Plymouth bumpers, I would just keep watching for them or maybe put a Want ad in the cl***ifieds.
I know I have a long ways to go before bumpers and what not, but I'm on a pretty tight budget and try and plan ahead a little still when I do find a good I can jump on it.
Something to think about. Is the car more hot rod or more custom? Using a heavy bumper on a custom is fine but IMHO the bumper should be slimmer on a hot rod
Speaking of mid '40s Ford bumpers; any used, seen, or has an opinion on the fit & chrome quality on Bob Drake's '47-'48 repop bumpers?
