Yea, free 392's is always a good price. Disregard rule #1 if they're free.

Another fast way to see the differnce is to look at the intake manifold (as long as it's an original) the 392's have the same height exhaust cross over as the intake ports so their intake is almost strait in this area. The picture below shows intake gaskets top to bottom 331/354, 392, and 331/354 truck.

Well bad news it is a S-24 DESOTO 330 cid Motor complete it was in a studeBaker that came from over in ARZ some place. so I am torn, not sure what I am going to do now, he said he would sell it to me for 500 and it has a adaptor plate on it to a GM automatic and Flex plate, what would it be worth if it is a good Block he is saying 500 is a good deal ? wacha think???
My plan was to put a 671 on it with a Hilborn 2 pot I have,an put in my Front motor Dragster.

I was being cynical, but it's funny how these things are always true at some level...

If your FED is just a 'fun toy' then it might work out ok. But, the 330, as good as it is, will never match a 331, let alone a 392. For the $500 it is a very good deal, but best used for a rod not a rail. No doubt there are plenty of guys here that will take the 330 off of your hands and provide a tidy profit to help you buy the Chrysler that you need.

A 392 with 354/331 heads has intake spacers. All early chrysler hemi intakes will interchange (392 will fit 354/331 etc.) but differ in port size (1951-1953 small or 1954-1958 large) and whether or not the manifold is wet or dry (1951-1954 or 1955-1958). 1954 is a ******* year with big ports and a wet manifold. As a side note, don't try to use low deck 331/354 cams in a 392, the lobes are degreed differently. Desoto, Dodge, and Chrysler hemi parts do not interchange and are all completely different engines. Hope this helps somebody out there.

there will be a use code on a flat in front of the valley cover, post it. It appears to have a 392 water crossover, but that in itself doesn't mean much.

All we can tell from the photo is that it is a 55 or later Chrysler.

I'd rather have a 354. Stronger bottom end. JMO Lippy 20399.jpg
