I will keep an eye on those.
Not sure if the spacer will help spread the load but I will definitely keep an eye on those.

    Thank you!
Good eye. Powder coater cover the face of it.
I will revisit and strip it before wheels go on and keep it from happening. Better be safe than sorry.

Got the spacers installed and things fit as they should.
The holes for the spacers were really tight and was afraid that once it was installed it wasn't going to come out. Went to Home Depot and got me the right drill bit, now they go in and out smoothly.

  5. Went through and read this whole thread yesterday and today. Amazing build. Looking forward to seeing the final product. I’m definitely saving this to reference later for my own build. Big time inspiration.

Doing a beautiful job, by page 30 it's hard to believe it's your first complete build. I've learned over the years the only way you get any better is practice and every guy on here that has a welder also owns a grinder too. Next time you looking at the ch***is could you give the distance from frame rail to backing plate and frame rail to drum face. I am trying to decide which banjo housings to use and curious of how much room you will have with your wheel tire combo. Now get back to work, the rain is over for us till next winter, we'll be back in a drought next month.

Put the wheels on and sitting the frame back on the "roller skates". Yes, my goal is to sit the body back on the frame next.

    thumbnail_IMG_8033.jpg thumbnail_IMG_8034.jpg
Love the stick out of the rear drums and the wheels.
Nice and tight but plenty of space and yet they are not sticking out too much

    thumbnail_IMG_8035.jpg
    thumbnail_IMG_8036.jpg thumbnail_IMG_8037.jpg
Those front drums look just as good and with no interference. Can't wait to put tires on but opted to put the body on to make things easier on me.

    thumbnail_IMG_8042.jpg
The pinstriping is starting to come together as I hoping for.

I really like the way the drums only show a little with your wheel/drum combination. This looks much better than the Buick drums sticking clear out of a set of 4" wide wheels. You are truly doing a great job with your choices for your roadster.

    Switching gears for moment....
I've had this 1900's Ford oiler can sitting on a shelf for a few years, waiting for the right moment to do something with it.
Overall it is in good condition, couple little dings that add character, and in need of some TLC

I saw a video on youTube on how to DIY copper plating...got the wheels turning
    ...well, here it goes.

    thumbnail_IMG_7978.jpg
    This is where it started...

Using some baking soda, some left over plumbing copper piping, distilled water, and a car battery charger...

    thumbnail_IMG_8028.jpg
    thumbnail_IMG_7979.jpg
Sat there for a couple of hours....

    thumbnail_IMG_8038.jpg

    Needed a new cork gasket...
    thumbnail_IMG_8039.jpg

Ready to be part of my display tool box....More to come on that...

Getting ready to lift the body and place it on the frame but before doing so, I figure it would be easier to install the sound deadener now, while the body is off, at least in the trunk area.

I decided to go with Kilmat, 80 mil. The reviews, price point, and ease to work with it, made it a winner.
It is really easy to work with, forms, cuts and installs very easily. I bought a roller set from Amazon and it makes a big difference.

Cleaned everything to ensure the Kilmat adheres to clean metal.
    thumbnail_IMG_8061.jpg

I cut some patterns to reduce the waste. There was no waste this way.
    thumbnail_IMG_8063.jpg

    thumbnail_IMG_8069.jpg

36 sq ft went a long way but I still need another box to finish the back of the trunk.
Eventually, I plan to cover all areas inside the car with it. I am thinking that I will need a total of 4 boxes to cover all areas..
It really makes a huge difference on the metal sound/vibration. We shall see once it is on the road. Hopefully, it reduces some of the noise from the quick change and lakester headers

Got another box of Kilmat and finished the trunk area.
Might be adding a piece to the underside of the tulip panel since I am at it.

Well, my plan to set the body on the frame got put on hold. Got a nasty cold all week long and just didn't felt I had the right set of mind to do it.
...Instead, I continued installing the sound barrier. Almost done with it....

Paper templates make it very easy and keeps waste to a minimum....
    thumbnail_IMG_8084.jpg thumbnail_IMG_8085.jpg thumbnail_IMG_8086.jpg

I still have the front floor panel, bottom of gas tank, and bottom tulip panel to go...

    Good productive weekend...
    Got all the Kilmat installed....

    thumbnail_IMG_8098.jpg thumbnail_IMG_8099.jpg

...But more exciting, got the body back on the frame!
So happy to see it as one piece again...so much work ahead but looking forward to it. thumbnail_IMG_8105.jpg thumbnail_IMG_8106.jpg thumbnail_IMG_8107.jpg thumbnail_IMG_8108.jpg

As I am getting ready to install my engine and trans, I am finishing some of the smaller things
Work has been crazy busy so I am only able to work an hour or so a day.

Got the rear installed, tail lights and license plate light. I am building the harness that will power these.
    thumbnail_IMG_8176.jpg

The trunk alignment plates had to be modified to fit. Easy enough

    thumbnail_IMG_8175.jpg thumbnail_IMG_8177.jpg

Finally got the fuel cap mounted. Waited so long to see it there.
    thumbnail_IMG_8149.jpg

With that, the trunk area is almost ready for upholstery....I am still figuring that part out :)

Finished the wire harness for the tail lights and license plate lights. Route them up high, as much as possible, to keep them away from elements.

It has been a fun journey.

Just the other day I found this picture from the day I bought the car. It sure has come a long way!

For sure. I've learned a whole lot of new things.
I never imagined how much fun this was going to be.

I got to admit, the engine and trans installation has me worried. :)

Got the horn wired and finished.

Most of the electrical from the fuse box back is now done. Battery box came out a really nice, stealth and out of the way.
    thumbnail_IMG_8211.jpg

Wood is back in place. I am using the original wood; I simply sanded it down and put a coat of wax on it.

Pedals went in for the last time or at least I hope. They were not working as smooth as I would like them so kept adjusting until I got them right. They now work smooth as ****er.
I decided to have them chromed to match the gas pedal.

    thumbnail_IMG_8311.jpg thumbnail_IMG_8312.jpg thumbnail_IMG_8313.jpg

Color sanding the firewall to get it ready before installing engine and ******
There was a moment I was thinking of doing a white firewall but now I am kinda glad I didn't.

Work has been crazy busy these days and been left me with little time to spend on the roadster.
I am working on routing the electrical and completing it...I am two wires short, that are on the mail....more to come on that once done I am closer to the end.

In the meantime, I have been adding some details to the paint and color sanding some of the smaller pieces.

I wanted to add a V8 logo somewhere in the car...just as a little hint to the flathead upfront.
I chose the lower rear pan.
I tried finding a place to get a stencil done but most places would only do a decal, so ended cutting my own stencil.

    thumbnail_IMG_8466.jpg thumbnail_IMG_8467.jpg

Traced it onto blue tape and added clear tape to the top of it to keep it in place until I placed it on the car.

    thumbnail_IMG_8468.jpg thumbnail_IMG_8472.jpg thumbnail_IMG_8473.jpg

The pinstripe on each side should match in width on the rest of the lines that I will be adding to the body.

As for the dash, I am trying to keep it as simple as possible.
I was fearful to use a buffer and damaging it, so I ended up buffing it by hand
    thumbnail_IMG_8484.jpg thumbnail_IMG_8485.jpg

My taping job was not the best :) but much better than trying to freehand it...
    thumbnail_IMG_8486.jpg

The idea was to put a single line around the inner part of the dash and around the gauges, similar to what the original Model A dash would have.

    thumbnail_IMG_8487.jpg thumbnail_IMG_8488.jpg thumbnail_IMG_8489.jpg

With some final cleaning and gauges, she is going to look pretty nice.

    That's a nice looking tool!
I have the cheap 3" HF one but the dash is so small I was afraid to damage it.

Electrical is starting to take shape. Thank God I took plenty of notes and had sketches to help walk me through what the plan was. It took a while to remember where everything was going and what it was for.

One screw up, I forgot to run 4 wires from the relays to the turn signal switch, damn it!....I had that on a separate drawing and I totally missed it. Easy fix but it will take more time to get it done.

I am using the wire loom through out , sealing all the ends, and will eventually be secured to the underside of the the gas tank.

Time has come for a family vacation! Really looking forward to it after +2 years of this roller coaster ride we've been living.
I am really looking forward to it and see the excitement in my little girls. We are doing the Disney cruise.

But before heading to the airport, I just had to get as much work done as I could possible could. After all, I will be gone for a week.
I buffed the rear crossmember cover. Added the V8 badge and a little bit of swag
I am no pinstriper, so stencils it is for me.

All that blue should be popping out with a light color carpet!

    thumbnail_IMG_8505.jpg thumbnail_IMG_8507.jpg thumbnail_IMG_8508.jpg

It has come a long way to see it where it is now...
