GOT A BUNCH OF STUDEBAKER PARTS - MOSTLY 289- INCLUDED WERE A SET OF ADJ ROCKERS- SHAFTS ETC -WHAT STUDE MOTOR-CAR- USED THE ADJ ROCKERS-AND ARE THEY THE SAME RATIO AS NON ADY ROCKERS??-ANY HELP APPRECIATED- THANKS DON

  2. I think most (if not all) had adjustable rockers because none ever had hydraulic lifters. In 65 when they put Chevy engines in they were 283's and then those had hydraulic lifters. Not sure of the ratio but I have seen early OHV Cadillacs use Studebaker rockers so they could have adjustable valves in the Cad. Early Cad and Studebaker engines look very much alike and some parts can be made to interchange.

^^^ This is NOT TRUE! ^^^

If you want the skinny on Studebaker stuff, head over to the forum on the Studebaker Drivers Club or Racing Studebakers.

Yes, all of the Studebaker V-8 (232, 259, 289) engines used adjustable rocker arms.
There was three different castings, but ALL were 1.5 ratio. Just minor differences to the valve pad shape and the adjuster.

As I noted, ALL Stude engines, from the early 50's through to the end in 1966 including the Avanti.
And yes, they are all interchangeable, even with the differences that I mention above.

The shafts went through two changes. Early shafts have smaller oiling holes at each rocker position, while the later shafts have larger holes.
Like the rocker arms, all of the shafts are the same diameter (don't recall what that is right now), all years, all V-8 engines.

I try to get "early" shafts that are in good condition, and drill larger holes in them. BUT, I don't drill them as large as the later shaft holes. Too much oil in my estimation leaking out of the shaft.
You may note, that in most cases that I've seen, the later shafts are in better condition, skuff wise than the early, small hole shafts.

  5. The shafts are same diameter as early Cadillacs. To use the studebaker rockers on an early Olds you can't use the Olds shafts, I think the Cadillac can be used. From my imperfect memory.......
