Mine are pitted pretty bad. The plan is to get them smooth enough to paint. Not going to rechrome. What would be best to make this happen? Sand blast? Steel wool? I am hoping someone has a way better idea than that.
My friend used my sand blaster and did his molding and used JB Weld to fill in the little pit holes and sanded and primer them. They look pretty good. Has not painted them, undecided on color.
I think I'd nose my hood before painting an emblem for it. With that said, I think painting what use to be chromed is more acceptable nowadays because we've gotten used to seeing it on the new stuff from the factory for at least a decade or two.
Have you looked at the reproduction pieces that Dennis Carpenter offers, they have the hood bezel & the emblem. I know re-chroming the park light housings is expensive, but keep you eyes on Ebay, I found a set of park light housings that were NOS and I snagged them for 75 bucks. HRP
Check with Bob Owens (Owens Salvage) in Wellington. If he doesn't have them ask him about the Grillet family in Childress. Larry(?)Grillet was a '56 fanatic, had dozens of restored and parts cars, but he died 4 or 5 years ago. His family may still have some stuff for sale. Owens is in the Hamb suppliers list.
I know someone that has alot of 55-56 parts. If your interested pm me and I'll give you his contact info.
