Here is the Dodge as it sits now. I cut the old rear cab off and used a sectioned 65 truck cab top to finish to roof. It is just screwed in place right now. Any wild ideas on how to finish the cab will be appreciated.

How about the rest of the back of that same truck cab?
With a swoosh of shiny stuff coming down meeting up, style wise, with the chrome on the fin?

I agree with exyending the cab. It will fill the void underneath the extended roof, and the chrome should be brought down from the chevy roof to the beltline also. Those are great ideas, and I think that they will really balance out yer truck. Neat

  4. An early '60s Chevy custom cab back, it has the right piece of chrome to meet up with that side trim.

Or else the B-Pillar from a 55-57 Ford ranch wagon. and a big back glass. I think some of the 57s had a trim piece on the B pillar.

  5. Here is a wild idea. Use the wrap-around rear window out of a 59-60 GM hardtop. That would give you a lot more cab room.

BTW, I just happen to have a 60 Olds that I'm parting out, make you a good deal on the window with any stainless and metal around the window you need. Here is a pic of the window on the car.

    Hey Chris,
My email is messin with me so I will share my super secret ideas with everyone (big deal).
I agree with these guys, I know a 59 edsel wagon rear hatch wraps around and could be welded in solid, maybe reapply the stainless skins (modified to fit of course) to cover the surgery marks. It should drop down to just about where the side trim is coming up. Probably even parallel to one another. There was a "salesmens" "raunchero-esque" car at the Desert Valley yard that used it's own hatch from the previous wagon life. It was kind of cool 'cause it still lifted just like stock, just moved forward 5 ft or so. I think dark coral and Lancers with med. whites would finish it nicely. White interior of course. I like the work you've already done on the front, clean it up, paint it. Right on Beeeawtch! You and Brandi should stop by sometime, I'll show you my etchings.....

I thought about a wrap around rear window and went as far as cutting off the front window of the 60's truck I have. But it is too wide and tall. A wagon back hatch may be the way to go too.

Ya oughts get a measurment on that olds back glass. If it would go it would be toooo coool. Just let the stainless line uo with you trim piece and fill whatever is necseeary with sheetmetal.

  9. Here's some guick ones........
    Wraparound window

  10. But I thought it looked awkward. Maybe with a shorter top.....

  11. And here's the back of the truck cab and the chrome from the trucks......

The olds rear window, cleaned up a little. You'd have to extend the door for this one, but it uses the rear of the back door frame from the GM hardtop.

There we go, keep those ideas comin' The problem with the wrap around is the B pillar is vertical like a Ranchero if it had a slant like an El Camino it seems like it would flow better.

1959 and 1960 El Camino's actually used those rear windows from the 4-door hardtops...

I just looked at my '60 Elky and it doesn't wrap around 1/2 as far as that Olds does...different window altogether....just came from the same design team...

    Jeem,
That looks like you hard topped it, which looks totally bitchen with the 1/4 glass but can you do a version without doing away with the as-is door frames?

  22. Forget the roof completly. Leave it topless and put a hot tub where the back seat used to be.

The mid-to-late '90s Dodge vans (not mini vans) have wrap-around rear quarter glass much like the '47-54 Chevy 5-window pickups. I didn't feel like going to jail for pulling over a van full of eldery folks to get any measurements.

Jeems proposal is way better than the various photoshops imho.
I would considered to chop 3 inches or so of the top. When it sits that high the b-pillar problem is awkward to get together and the cab sorta steals the rearfins thunder... [IMG]
How about chopped, no wraparound, but a plain, flat (wind-down?) window which "belongs" to the pickup-bed, and broad, swooping b-pillars that follows the flow of the bodysides and hides the rear window. (Wish I had a scanner [IMG])

If you're cutting up a 1/2 ton truck, there is some parts I could use, mainly springs and body panels. Send me a PM. Thanks

Hey Jeem, Steeve mentioned you had a unibody small window rear cab section. Do you have plans for it? I measured one at his shop and the rear window and surrounding metal may work to end up with something that looks like your sketch.

As far as the parts request goes, I just have the rusty cab for the Chevy, the other bits are spoken for.

  28. have you thought of the rear panel and glass from a wide glass 57 up Ford or dodge pickups?[in other words not have the"overhang" as pictured/and have a smooth roundedrear corner and slightl;y lean it and the door post to match?Just a thought..I think the Idea you have started is cool.

I'd like to save the very top portion (roof skin). It seperates at a factory seam. You can have the rest, I'll call you tomorrow at the shop.

Thanks for the good words guys. Between Chris' car and the one at Desert Valley, I had to take a break and sketch it out. I thought the hardtop thing was a neat idea, it's ONLY more work.....

wow, jeem has some GREAT talent! Very cool!

I like wayfarers photoshop the best, and DrJ had a cool idea in a chrome thing thatll flow with the existing side trim (unless you are shaving it off, of course).
