I am hoping this will be my only posting on this thread. I got TRJ for years. I am not getting it now. If Steve has a plan for coming back, I am all for it and I am going to shut up and let him do the best he can. All the rest is speculation and pointless

I’m waiting to see if the subscriptions lifetime or otherwise will be honored or not.

I don’t like to think that this will be a case of a “new” business venture and as such ground zero is the starting point and they start with a clean slate.

While I can’t see Steve pulling something like that the hole he was in hasn’t gotten any shallower after closing shop.

I’m hopeful to see TRJ in my mailbox here in Canada sooner rather than later however that was always a problem even before the poop hit the fan.

I never did see #84 and possibly never will.
Ask far as #85 goes that remains to be seen.Literally.

I’m glad I don’t have any dog in the fight. Only bought the one with Scrub Hansen’s Purple Custom 40 Ford on the cover. I’ve never read any other copy. Hope it all works out for those of you who have them coming. :)

Another thing I see that’s interesting is that TRJ has moved again from Ashland VA to a new facility in Denton Maryland

"Just because you are down, doesn't mean you are out"! Very happy to see and hear this.....
    I'll support TRJ 110%.

It's important to all of us here and our hobby!

  6. How is screwing customers good for the hobby?

    just playing devils advocate.

there are lots of threads here where vendors didn’t deliver, poor quality, bad service or scams.

honestly wondering what makes this different.

  7. .....That's all been covered ad nauseum, Anthony. I respectfully feel like it's time to let it go and hope that Steve can recover as well as those who felt like they were screwed over.

it appears the guy is working towards doing what needs to be done to at least clean up the outstanding issues. Accusing him of screwing his customers is completely wrong. His world was collapsing around him. Everything is his life went to shit. If you have ever owned a business, you know you are the last one to get a paycheck. You pour everything into your business. Once the lawyers and the courts get you doing bankruptcy, you have no control. If you gave yourself a gas card on the business, it is gone along with any paycheck.
I’m in the first 200 lifetime members. I am still willing to see if Steve’s move to Maryland gets the magazine back on track. Keep in mind, he is talking about 2 issues……..and no sales to back it up

everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I just think we should cut him a little slack at this time and revisit in 6 months

The term”screwing” came from customers. Not this fat guy.
It’s the elephant in the room that’s being ignored.
    I wish them the best.
    But….
A friend of mine had a business. Super nice guy. His friends were too nice (me included) and never gave him any negative constructive criticism.

    his business closed.

To be still fighting the fight to do the right thing shows exceptional character and resolve. Poking your head back up into the firing line shows courage and dedication. Many would have taken the easy way out and simply disappeared under a rock. Maybe everyone should wait and see what happens before firing shots again. Seems to me that TRJ deserves the chance to redeem themselves. I wish them well, and hope they can make it right.

  13. I agree. I understand the frustration but am actually getting tired of the whining. I stopped in the new location and spoke to Steve a couple months ago and he is a true fighter.

The photography was on par with the best.
Hope to see that quality back in action

I dont know Steve, I enjoy TRJ but I cant get behind them after the lack of communication with subscribers. Its bad buissiness plain and simple. If Id have recieved an email or postcard letting me know something Id be ok, I would still support them. Instead these posts on IG or facebook where I dont have an account. Why not post here on the HAMB where they sure as shit posted to share the lifetime subscription "deal". I hope to get what I paid for, but I'll never feel good about the way we got charged then ignored. I dont give a damn how good the product is if your ethics arent right im out. I sure hope they can get it back together and be successful, but I wont get burned again.

" Steve handled this as poorly as could be done."

Not nearly, Tman, as John Diana, who flouted his theft of subscribers' monies and generally gave the finger to his employees and contributors and never tried to make good. Steve may have/had his struggles, but I believe he's trying to make things as right as he can.

As print has been labeled as "dead", I love the fact that Steve is fighting back.

As for the negativity I see, and the sideways remarks, why not rest on your haunches and hope that the best gawdamned magazine out there comes back with force!! That is my hope and I support The Rodder's Journal!

Not handled transparently and mistakes were obviously made…. But that’s far from the truth. There are so many examples of publications folding in the past 20 years and subscribers being left out in the cold forever… and yet, here’s Steve… all by himself… trying his damndest to bring this thing back… and for what? Certainly not money. You literally can’t make a living with such a small and dying audience using an antiquated medium.

So… why hasn’t he given up? Why hasn’t he quit and moved on?

Further thought… I 100% accept the fact that people can and do rightfully have a bone to pick with TRJ. I get that and don’t judge folks that express it. If I wasn’t close to this deal and was out $50, I’d be annoyed too… I’d say something at equal to that frustration.

However, folks that speak so quickly to degrate and so Ill-proportioned to their loss frustrate me. It feels like modern twitter citizenary.

Gross. Stupid. Typical of the day.

At one time of my life I subscribed to about 15 magazines. I have given up almost all of them. I have several go belly up without any notice, Skinned Knuckles is the last one. I can't even tell you if my subscription to TRJ is still active. But if Steve starts up I will absolutely reup as no one has ever done a better magazine then TRJ.

  24. Not judging, just stating the facts. I wish him luck. By not getting out in front and being open he burned A LOT of bridges. His situation reminds me of Eric/Vaphead/Riley Auto. Life imploded, business imploded and the downhill slide came. Doesn't make him evil, just a human that made some poor choices.

Maybe he didnt make poor choices. Sometimes evil people do evil things and hang good guys. I doubt very many people really know what happened. Assuming he made poor choices looks like judging. How a guy handles the adversity makes him a good guy or not.

Sums it up^^^^^. Poor choice would be take the money and have fun with it, seems to me they had a set limit of lifetime subs, to get them on track. Heck, they could have let 1000’s subscribe, but capped it.
Seeing the post that was done, seems they are trying to make it right for those who have money invested before they take in new money.

At some point its all been said right? Lets just sum it up
-We like TRJ but stopped getting it and some orders were left unfilled
-No real answers, lots of online speculation
    -Shipping issues
    -Pandemic
-Then nothing shipped and people angry
-No more staff and a location change
-Steves gonna try and pull this thing out of a nose dive and honor previous orders
-We still like TRJ and wait to see

So yeah thats really about it right? At this point your either pulling for the guy or youre not.
