So the more I think about it, the more I think it would be a pretty cool idea to do a nation wide HAMB build. How about we do it like a HAMB chop? The guy with the car sends out killer t-shirts to everybody that participates with a part, and the car gets into some mags and described as the H.A.M.B-Roadster or whatever, maybe put the shift pattern logo on the back glass or something? Maybe have it painted on the car somewhere and have it weathered? You tell me. No auctioning it off or anything, just everybody participating in a group build, and getting some press and we can all check it out and maybe go for a ride at the HAMB drags or wherever. It's just for fun and glory really, but I think having a H.A.M.B car running around and at the shows would be really cool. There are car-"club" cars that everyone pitches in on, why not have one for the H.A.M.B? T-shirts and shipping and whatnot ain't cheap, so its not like the guy building the car just has his hand out, everybody gets something out of it and the entire membership gains as well. I think this is basically what Skratch was intending, and as it was his idea, I nominate him to do the build(if he's interested), and I'm sure there are local members that can pitch in to share the work. He's already got the car and the concept, he's set aside time to do it and has a short 8 week? deadline, and he's got skills to do it right, and he'll make sure it'll get it in mags. What do you guys think?
HEY, I would donate some parts for the build!!! check out My web site and see if there is somthing you can use...thanks Rick 712 623 4119 www.macsratz.com
would be awesome. but who will OWN the car? HAMB members would have to come together and plan this thing out. what car? what motor? chopped or not? and so on. alot of stuff to figure out. once that is figured out, people start donating anything on the list. values could be set to each piece donated (a complete motor would be worth more than the steering wheel) those values determine how many raffle tickets the donator gets. then the finished car will be raffled off to people who donated either time or parts. that way it will be built by HAMB members and it would stay in the HAMB.
Or maybe pick one of the "young guns"...some HAMBer's kid that is somehow deserving...as a start to their car hobby/career...just a thought.
Well, Im 17, give me the car! Just kidding, I think we should give it to Ryan for giving us the opportunity of experiencing the HAMB free of charge. If ya'll decide to run an SBF, I have some cal customs with a chip in one of the fins I would donate. I also have an external oil or tranny cooler or a vacuum tank I could donate? I think the hardest part about the build would be how do guys far away contribute besides sending stuff off? I guess they could have parts sent to them to restore to working condition or something. I guess it would have to be built/assembled by some Texans.
I'm not sure if Ryan wants a car or auction or not. I don't wanna speak for him, so I'll let him answer. Just me personally, I could get behind 1) donate it to charity and let *them* auction/raffle it off 2) raffle it off to HAMB members that contributed 3) the guy that supplies the basic vehicle, garage, and labor keeps it. Personally, I think this is a huge commitment of money and time for whoever undertakes the project. I think Skratch really had the right idea, it just didn't come out right. People come together to help someone chop a top, it's a HAMB chop. The people helping get lunch and t-shirts, paid for by the guy getting his car chopped. . My thought is a HAMB car would be much the same, just on a larger(national) scale. People could kick in parts, Skratch(or whoever) would pay for shipping(or not), and send 'em a t-shirt. The car gets built, seen in magazines and at shows, and it's good for the greater glory of the HAMB and the people involved. What you get out of it is a t-shirt and the satisfaction of knowing we all built a car together, and you get to see it in mags and whatnot and can point out 'that's my fender!' or something like that. Maybe you'll get to see your part on it at the HAMB drags, or get a ride in it. That's it, man, it's for fun and for free. It ain't someone just asking for a handout, the guy doing the build is supplying the shell or whatever and the shitload of work it takes to put it all toggether, as well as t-shirts($$$) and shipping, and the obligation of getting it out to shows and the mag shoots and whatnot. Just like a club car, it belongs to the guy that bought the car, simple as that. Just as an aside, I don't even know Skratch, never talked to him, have no dealings with him and have no reason to think I ever would. I *do* know that he's been on the HAMB longer than most, has a great rep around here, and *will* get the car done when he says it will. The man has skills. He also has connections, the car *will* get in magazines. I just think it makes sense to give him the vote since he's got everything in place and wants to do it(or at least *may* still want to), and has the time set aside, and a finish date ( i think 8 weeks?) so we'll get to see the car done in our lifetimes, instead of being in someones garage for a few years. Just like on a movie, there needs to be one guy to do the directing, ultimately deciding what direction he's going with the car(a movie is a collaberation though, more than you'd think), what parts he can use, etc. If someone else wants to step up, can commit to a schedule(tenatively have the car ready for the HAMB drags or a certain car show or something maybe?), and has the location, talent, vehicle, money(don't forget the t-shirts!!! and shipping, and the million small things you need) and time to do this, then please put up your hand or nominate someone. I think the only rules should be you have to put the HAMB logo on it(however it looks best), be available for photo shoots(and setting them up? I guess), and when you sell the car (whenever that is, say at least have to keep it /show it for a couple years maybe?)some of the proceeds go to Ryan or to support the HAMB. Once again, Skratch can do all of the above, and I think a lotta people will vouch for him that you can trust him to follow these rules. Hell, I don't have any parts lying around, but I'll buy something for 50-100 bucks just to get the damn t-shirt and be able to say that rear view mirror is a part I donated when I see it in a magazine. Never underestimate the power of a t-shirt to motivate people to give Love to hear your thoughts. I think this could be a lot of fun, and I'd like to be a part of it.
I think that's a great idea. There are a lot of skilled people on here. I think we can just go with the flow of donations of parts or labor, and the guy leading the build can decide what fits the project best. I'm picturing a chopped truck with the HAMB 4-speed logo on the rear window, or tailgate, or doors, and I'd love to be able to say those lugnuts are mine, and I'd be proud as shit to see it in a mag. That's probably the only time anything of mine is gonna get press like that, and I think it'd be way freaking cool. Plus a killer, limited edition t-shirt that says HAMB build 2006 on it goes a long way too!
count me in. I am a fab tech and a bodyman on a professional level if its in nor-cal im there. we may be able to store it and work on it at the shop I work in. Hell we could even use my car. (hows a 46 pontiac two door fast back sound) I just bought a 287 with tri power from a sixties race boat.
sounds like a great idea, raffle it off for $$ to support the board. Gather up parts and put them all together in one spot to make one killer ride. We'll see when the boss gets back.
can we put skratch in charge of making sure it goes to all the shows and gets the press?! ha! where do we send parts? Brendan
That's how I think it would work. *IF* he's interested in doing it. It's a big responsibility for whoever takes on the project, and it'll take someone that can be relied on. I think Skratch fits the bill perfectly. I know I'll cough up a part. I want that t-shirt, dammit!
Calling Ryan, come in Ryan....... These guys are out to lunch! Hey guys, ya dont need Ryan to run this caper.. What the F#$%^k !! Calmn down a bit.
Raffle the car off and use the money to do the next HAMB build. I don't have any parts, but will donate money to the build. Mike
This may sound crazy but think about it: How bout doing a pedal car, sheet metal guys can each do something on it then UPS it along the line to body, paint, interior, chrome, etc. Wouldn't take a big expenditure on any single person and could be shipped back and forth accross the country on the cheap. Then raffle it off for the HAMB. Think about it before you riddicule the idea......
Man If this comes together... well lets just say i can see a shit load of HAMB relays in the future. Parts from all over and who knows where. Another idea is who ever builds its can maybe even have a swap meet to raise from from parts sent in that will not work on that perticular project.
Now that I open this thread again, I dont think a HAMB build is going to work. Sure, NorCal HAMBers (or whoever) could get together on the weekends and build a car for shits and giggles. What Im getting at is that there is too much that could go wrong. And a lot of responsibility on top of that. Last I checked the boss still had a job and this was a thing for him to do on the side. I just think this is going to be a project that everyone talks about, but doesnt pan out. Much like the HAMB cd that was going to happen (if there wasnt a HAMB cd this may be a flashback from the 12 hits of acid I dropped)
