    This photo looks authentic as hell. But there's something that bugs me every time I look at it. It looks like the car is maybe undergoing a final inspection and/or being prepped for delivery to a dealer somewhere. But it looks like it has a pair of "Front Runner" drag racing style tires on the front. And they look like they're mounted on some lightweight aluminum wheels. At least they don't look like a typical stamped steel street wheel with poverty caps of that era.

    So what am I missing here? Were these cars ever delivered with this style of tires and wheels on the front? Or was this photo taken somewhere other than in a factory or some other "custom" racing fabrication facility? o_O

    64 Only, they came with the lightweight wheels on front with no center cap to save some additional weight. Rear wheels were steel wheels, no hubcaps View attachment 5331032 View attachment 5331032

    Well from here I'd speculate that this shot wasn't taken at an ***embly building or modification shop. There is at least one 4 door sedan visible in the background that looks to be a fairly stripped down model. Perhaps a vehicle that was destined to be a taxi or police vehicle. If this was shot at a transportation center of some sort I could see the fleet vehicles and "off-road use only" cars being prepped to be loaded on car haulers separate from the more standard, mainstream production models.

  17. That was an early '64 Hemi! Still using 3705 style carbs from the Max Wedge. Gene.

    @65pacecar,
    I just started a new project (track roadster) and you keep posting those '63 Plymouths.
    You're driving me nuts!

    I was just at the Detroit Autorama and a friend of mine and I came across one and he went on and on about how ugly it was. Then I told him it was one of my all time favorites.
    Got pretty quiet for awhile :D

    I love them, beautiful cars. A friend of mine has a 63 Sport Fury Max Wedge Survivor (plus an original 65 A990 Race Hemi, 2 68 Hemi Cuda’s and a Hemi Dart all real factory race Hemi cars).

    Good luck with your build, post pics along the way.

    Is it not funny they used those rear quarters on the wagons from 1963 to 1965 making the new taillights fit....

    Great shot of Al in the Dutchman! Supposedly this body still exists, but I haven't been able to verify that. I asked him once what he did with that car once he built the long-wheelbase Dart and all he could remember is that it went to "some guys in Wisconsin."
