Folks Of Interest RIP ... Danny Ongais

Rest in peace.

 

Always liked him and was impressed went he went onto Indy. But I always wondered where the name Ongais originated from...any ideas? With a lot of the greats now presumably “up there” there must be a hell (pardon the pun) of a Saturday night drags!

 

I first heard of Danny when he was driving for Mickey Thompson. He had a great career, and was one of the superb drivers in almost any motorsport. RIP, Danny - you'll always be "On-the-gas" to me.

 

I wonder what happened to that digger that lost its chute around 3:46?

 

He may have wound up like John Milner !

 

Sad to hear of Danny's passing. He was a true professional, in the car
and out.

Danny set almost 300 land speed records driving for Mickey Thompson.

 

If it had wheels, he would race it. Of all the people that we have lost, Danny was a favorite of mine.

 

For a decade or so, he seemed to be Everywhere. In print, at the drags, on tv, at Indy, ready to go Fast in most anything. Sure must be getting crowded up there, but can you just imagine what it's like?! Forever, On The Gas!

 

As a kid, I was up on drag racing. I blew my loose cash on about 4 car magazines every month... a whole $2 a month, then they went to 75¢ each... He was one racer I followed, RIP.

Motocross to Indy, he was fearless. RIP.

 

On the Gas......One of the best in anything with wheels.....ever! Sad for his passing, and sadder still about the passage of time and all the people that have been part of this.

 

Dang it... Thanks for the memories.
