  2. I would hate for any time to lapse without a self inflicted injury.
Outside trimming some bushes and a branch somehow got underneath my glasses and stabbed and bruised my eyeball, fortunately missing the cornea! Vision OK, just bloody. Wasted 4 hours going to Doc.

Anyhow, got some startup gauges hooked up after 4 parts stores just to get the right size temp sender adapter.

Turned down this priming shaft support for the distributor hole. Probably not needed, but can't hurt.
MAY have oil pressure in the engine tomorrow.:D

Nice plumbing job on that fuel line. I don't usually see hard line from one end to the other!

I guess I’ve always done that. I plan to jump with some flex from the reg. over to the engine.

  7. Let there be oil pressure. And it was so.
    40 psi with a drill. 10W-50 VR1
Now to rotate her to get oil fed up to the rockers.

Let's see that priming tool you have in the block. Looks nice!

  9. The rod came from HHH, and I turned out the distributor hole plug on my ancient lathe.

Mine was laughable, intermediate shaft in the hole, socket extension bracketed to the firewall with a greased up conduit strap, but it worked well! I didn't take pictures of the apparatus so I would have deniable plausibility should it fail miserably. Yours looks professional in comparison. If I ever break in another Hemi, I'll ask to borrow it.

  11. I posted another thread looking for a YouTube video that was linked on here of a guy showing how to get oil to the rockers by turning the crank to two specific degree settings after TDC, without having a helper, or any other aids. These settings lined up the cam oil feed to the rocker stands.
So far no response as to the video, just a derailed thread. Searches all come up empty.
If anybody recalls it, PLEASE post the link.

I’ve spent two days drill priming and crank turning on this SOB, got oil once out of one bank’s rockers and not the other, and then couldn’t get the first side to repeat!
I’ve marked and turned the crank, found no change in the drill motor speed, nor any of the other numerous suggestions everyone has been kind enough to put forward.
If I can’t find this video again, I’m done F**King with it!
It will either fire and get oil to the rockers, or burn em up and then it’s SBC time.
Sorry for the rant. Time for a break and a cold one.
Maybe see you all in a couple days, or a week, or ?...

I got lucky, and after calming down, finally found the original of the video, posted on the Early Hemi site on FB back in December. Done by a Mark Spencer/Spencer’s Speed Shop, Belleville, NJ.
Here are the specs. They are for his 392, so it’s to be seen if the 330 is the same. Results to follow.

To prime #1,3,5,7: Rotate #1 to 120* after TDC, run the drill
To prime #2,4,6,8: Rotate #6 to TDC, run the drill

  15. @57tailgater You’re welcome. I meant to tell you that there are several ending suffix letters, which I think are different mounting configurations.

I have seen the one without that requires a bracket made. I’ll have to see if I find others too. Thx and keep up the great work!

Dude it's TIME throw oil and plugs in it and FIRE IT OFF. :)

don't forget the pan plug.

  18. If I can’t get a sign of oil to that right bank of rockers, that’s what I intend to do.
    Time to move on.
I did remember to check the pan plug when I put the oil in it. And the filter.
I still need to bolt on the flex plate, HHH adapter, converter and trans and set it all back in the frame.

  19. Yaaaaay! It’s a gusher!
Struck oil today on the right bank after over an hour's run with a bigger, faster drill motor. Must have been bone dry.
Back to your regular unscheduled updates and more fun-filled adventures with the pile-o-parts pickup.
Thanks to everyone who offered support on here and the other thread!

  20. No biggie maybe, but getting the lump off the engine stand was a big deal psychologically for me.
Life got simplified, and I don't feel so overwhelmed and bogged down.
Maybe get this pig stuffed back in the frame soon. Stay tooned for more misadventures.

  21. Yep, there was a little progress made. And, yes, I did remember the converter.
Next, find the trans dipstick that I put away safely.
Then get my neighbor to help me stick it back in the frame.:D
FWIW, that Hot Heads adapter is made so that it is a bitch to install the flex plate with their supplied stock bolts and nuts, and torque them. NEXT TIME, drill out and tap the crank flange, so you don’t need to get to the back side!

  22. Is it in yet?
    Not THAT, ya pervs!
Even though these plus sizes do require some extra effort!

    YES IT IS!
Now about getting those headers back on.
And finding the still misplaced and MIA trans dipstick!

  23. Pulled the rear center section and swapped it for another one.
Got the engine and tranny bolted in.
    Shifter hooked up.
Pressure reg. bolted in for good.
Dropped the radiator in and found the correct shaped hoses that only required trimming the ends.
    Things were looking up!
    20220318_134822.jpg
    Not so fast there!
Got the right side header on and hooked to the exhaust pipe, but the left side required slinging the engine and pulling the motor mount! Argh!
    Didn’t remember that from before.
Finally got it on and bolted down.
Then things really turned to SHIT.
Torqueing the last nut and the stud snapped, below the surface! WTF?
    I'm snake bit!..

Bummer, you will sort it out. You wouldn't be this far into the project if you could not handle an occasional set back.

  26. Can you post the part numbers for the radiator hoses? The top one looks like something I can use for another application.
    Thanks.

  27. Sure.
    Upper is Gates 23234
    Lower is Gates 21956

Both came from threads on here, just about SBC's instead of Hemi's.

Sharpened this little chisel which was the same width as the stud hole. By tap, tap, tapping and turning, it acted like a small impact driver. Fortunately this was a fresh install, and it wasn't seized. Just had thread sealant on it. Little by little it rotated out past the port face where I could get some small needle nose on it.
    Took about an hour.
    Improvise, adapt and overcome!!

Well this is the end to this chapter. Left side header on for the last time, hopefully!
Had to open up the flange holes a little more and it slid right on.
It's been FUBAR since I got them. Sanderson, you suck..
Anyhow, time for some more adventures and opportunities.
Like rear end and rear brakes.
    Or alternator and belts.
    Stay tooned.
