I want to copper plate some trim on a custom and have some questions.

Will it oxidize really fast in the elements?

Can I clear coat it to protect it and will this look good with a clear on it?

Has anyone seen this done? How did it look? Pictures would be great.

    Thanks,
    Mike

About like a penny, or copper pipe. Easy to polish though. Don't have any clear experiance. I cleaned-up my compressor copper pipes when I had to buy a new pressure switch, and it went back to the old penny look in about a month.

There was a restored Rickenbacker sport sedan at Hershey years ago that has all the bright work, and wire wheels if my memory is correct done in copper, looked real sharp. Do a Google search and it should pop up.

    Hey,

Ya can polish copper and clear coat it, but it holds up about as well
    as clear coated br***.
Use epoxy to clear and avoid exposure to heat and sunlight, as much
    as ya can.

I wear my watch quite a bit, it oxidized soon after I made the copper case, but mostly looks ok. When I've travelled to humid places, it got pretty ****py looking pretty quick, but after being back in dry AZ for a while it gets back to normal.

I have had experience with copper plating mild and stainless steel. Both will tarnish without some clear, and everyone I've dealt with recommends putting clear on the finished product ASAP to avoid any unwanted exposure to the elements. If you clear it it will keep that brand new penny bright finish. I usually keep my parts polished cause I like the option of a little aged look. I like to let it get almost dark brown and greenish throw on a little polish and it will bounce right back.

the copper watch is the only one like it, built with one of the three prototype watch boards....the production watch you can buy is quite untraditional, with it's machined aluminum case, so it's probably not appropriate for the hamb.

So basically, as long as I'm not in hot humid places for too long it should look good for a while between polishing. HA! Here in Mobile, hot and humid is the only weather we have! I'll have to look into clear coating it.

    Thanks,

House of Kolor has a new line of "metal-look" paint...chrome, copper, gold, etc. This may be an option you might want to consider as well.
