Have a pair of rear radius rods and I want to find out the I.D. of the spring perch. When I got them they had old damaged shackle bolts that I'm taking out. The shackle is the older style, square ended, metal shell. Getting it out took heat, drift punch and hammer This left the shell which disintegrates easily. I drilled it out to 11/16 but there still remains. Can I go to 3/4?

    Thanks

I just pulled out the old remnants of shackle bushings. I drilled them out as big as I could go without getting into the eye. Clamped it up in my vise and spent an hour or better per side with an old wood chisel peeling what was left in the hole. I then used the small sandpaper drum to clean it up.

Once you get the stud and the rubber stuff out of the way, then use a cutting torch and make a quick slice all the way to the other end. That thin shell will pre heat and cut quicker than the spring or the perch will know it happened.

They are 3/4", if you don't have a torch, take a hacksaw blade and wrap tape around it to protect your hand, and split the remaining sleeve and knock it out. I machined this driver, works great as well. IMG_8401.JPG IMG_8402.JPG
