I would like to change over from barbed fittings to AN style fittings on my transmission cooler. They make a compression fittings for this but the problem I have is the oddball size on the cooler inlet / outlet ports. O/D of the tube is .340 and a standard 5/16 compression fitting is .312. Rounded off 11/32 is .340 and doubt they make that size of fitting.

    Any idea's?

What I have now is hose with hose clamps which is alright but I still get a bit of leakage or vapor from them over time that messes up my radiator.

Yep , those clamps work great for a variety of fluid hoses. Make sure you are also using top quality hose.

Never even thought of those. I may have to go with something like that.

I just ran a couple of short runs of rubber cooler hose, 4" or so, then connected that to the AN hose with a AN barb fitting. Of course my cooler is a stand alone unit mounted under the car, not in the radiator, and is out of normal sight. I snugged my clamps after I had run it a few times and while the lines were warm, so far, no leaks.

I too have found that worm hose clamps are junk for automotive use. Ever notice how none of the OEMs have used them since to 80s?

I like using oetiker clamps for stuff like this that's more or less a permanent install.

Harley Davison uses them on their oil & FI lines.

My rod has the same problem. I've lived with it, but now see an easy and inexpensive solution. Thanks for starting this thread.

If you can find the USA made ones they are a better quality than the China made ones. My local parts store still gets USA made ones at times, I go through the bin and pick them out when I need clamps. I have heard some guys get them in the import section of Pull a part, some of them are still using the German made ones that are good as well.

The odds are the barbed hose connection in the cooler is a pipe thread. You can get a br*** compression fitting with the correct threads, just take your hose barb in and see what the threads are for sure and get the proper size br*** fitting.

Or use the injection clamps on hydraulic hose, non-hydraulic hose will break down from the modern trans fluid pretty fast. Tighten the clamps, run the car up to operating temp, let it cool, and retighten the clamps.

Belmetric.com sells the German made Norma brand, stainless and very nice. Surprisingly inexpensive.
