Some can be saved. I've seen some become drivers again or a beautiful machine. Some are better off sitting there until the end of times. I've passed many a field or wood find vehicle that was for sale. Many were rotted or too far gone.

@ChevyGasser Madness requested a pic or 2 of his '55 in a field. Hope I did this right, testing my computer skills...

I can't resist them they're like lost puppies...you take 'em home and try to find where they belong if that doesn't happen you keep 'em...you do it because you know you're one of the last few people in the world who actually gives a shit...I'm the patron saint of Lost Causes

Had quite a lot of interest and finally sold to a 1957-58 Ford fan who had a parts stash from previous projects. Nice to know it went to someone who appreciates it and will put it back on the road. After all, that's what motivates us, not so?

And this year's junker... was NOT in a field but was chopped up with a fire axe along with a coupe and stored in a chicken coupe....

On a roll with selling several "yard" cars to clean up our homestead and make the wife smile. Can anyone provide a site for OT first gen Ford Taurus fans? Thanks in advance for your references.

  12. Just drug this “field car” home last week. It has quite a bit of rust, but is worth saving as it is a real SS 4-speed car. Last tag was 86 and I wish the guy that has owned it since the late 60’s would have stored it inside. It was his first car and he has lots of fond memories with it. He was kicking himself for letting it get as bad as it is when we were cleaning it out to load up. At least he decided to let it go before it got any worse.

Some Chevy guys refer to '55 Chevys (or sometimes all 55-57 Chevy's) as "Shoebox Chevy's", it's a slang term.

Good score on the 55's. Rough, but definitely needing to be saved. Would be great donor cars for 2 door sedan conversions if they're not buildable by themselves.

  16. I'll be the first to admit that field cars generally make no sense financially but nobody ever became a hot rodder because it was a good investment. There's just a magic about a "left for dead" woods or field found car. Hard to explain it but it's different then a garage find. Maybe it's the feeling that it couldn't or shouldn't be reanimated. Maybe it's the challenge of proving to yourself you can do it even if it means replacing 80% of the car in the process. They may not make sense but I'm hooked on em'.

I still dream about this poor abandon beauty sometimes, as it's my favorite year Hudson and has personal history from when I was around 13 yrs old (2nd base for the first time in the back seat). 2,00 miles away, rotting away to nothing and as of 10 years ago the owner didn't want to part with it. Makes no sense financially, realistically, logistically, whateverlly...but when it gets in your head, it's just stuck there.

There was a 63 Impala SS in that auction that was my first new car, that I traded in for a 68 Z28 when they were released in 1967 that I would have liked to have back, but not for the money it brought on the auction!

Guess I do know of a 48 Hudson convert woods car.
Seems like an uncle was murdered in it many years ago.
Would bet it stays there till it isnt.
OR. It moves under its own power.

This is another "Junkyard Find", not a field find, and the photos date back as far as 1980. Bill, my best friend from High School and I found this 56 BelAir in a junkyard near Pekin ILL. called Spring Lake Auto Salvage. It was sold new in Anchorage Alaska and somehow ended up in central ILL.

Bill bought it in August 1980, as it looks in the first two photos. This was just before the start of our Senior Year. He got it running by summer 1983 and had it in grey lacquer primer, (photo #3). That was about as far as he got and sold it to me in 1994, (photo #4).

Unfortunately, it's still in the parts collecting stage and has weathered quite a bit since then, (last photo). On the plus side...Rust wise, it really hasn't gotten any worse that it was in the mid 1980's. By the way, the nice front fenders and hood have been stored inside since the mid 1990's and are still in the same grey primer.

Got it out in one piece, that's good to see! Honestly, doesn't look that terrible, either.

Yeah, the only casualty was a rocker that didnt look too healthy to begin with. It seems pretty fixable. Definitely is gonna get a full floorpan though.

  29. I think these would come under the category of too far gone. I did drag the A roadster home for $400.00. I do know the feeling, of wanting to save the sad ones.
