Been a long time hope everyone is doing great , Looking for advice from anyone that has used either of these type of kits pros and cons on either one? Did they fit stock 15" steel wheels like listings states , first kit is a bolt on type that multiple people sell online , and then the Granada spindle type tom woods sells any info would be appreciated. Not really trying to hunt down parts to piece together a homemade kit unless there's already a thread with a part # list that's readily available without finding spindles and machining them. And don't want to retain drums at all so ceramic pad upgrade mentioned before in the past not really what I want. Appreciate any info you guys can give. Thanks timmy
I used a conversion from tomscl***ic eBay store on my 58 which looks similar to your 1st photo. Their kit uses an adapter plate that bolts to the stock spindle and uses rotors and calipers that are readily available at auto parts stores. It was pretty straight forward to ***emble. The instructions showed an area on the spindle that usually needed grinding so the bracket would attach properly. It took about 5 minutes grinding time for both spindles. Hope that helps, James
I also used tomscl***ic and it is close to the 1st photo but not the same. It did fit my 15" wheels fine. Like James said, a little grinding on the brackets to get things flush but not a big deal.
Neither kit shows a MC or prop valve which you may need. I used a Wilwood complete kit engineered for my Ford. Did not go with vacuum power ***ist. Been on 3 years and am very happy. Fits 15” steels. Higher $$$ than most and I kept my stock spindles. Granadas today are replacements from offshore.
Thanks guys for the replys another question I had is about the Granada spindle kit been awhile but thought I remember Granada spindles lower the car in front , is that for original Granada spindles only or kit Granada spindles also might be something I have to call Tom woods and ask. Don't want to go any lower in front , jimmy six there's a kit with the mc / proportioning valve combo included in it, or I could buy it separately as a combo which I plan on doing when I decide which kit I ended up buying.
I used the same set up as Jimmy6 on my 55 Wilwood took the guess work out of the equation. Plug and play with a minimal amount of fab…. Brake lines and such. Master and prop valve separate but Wilwood has both, hope this helps.BTW stops amazing I’m sure Jimmy6 will second that
The Tomscl***ic includes a GM master cylinder and factory proportioning valve. Other than it being an ugly master cylinder, it work fine. I prefer non-power brakes, but he also has power brake setups. James
Wilwood here too. Not inexpensive but not cheap off shore either , goes on sale sometimes at Speedway. A day and a few sixpacks for the brakes and about the same for the Master cylinder.
Looks like you can use your 15" wheels and not have to change spindles. https://www.performanceonline.com/1937-42-ford-car-disc-brake-conversion-kits/
I think a missed point on the installation of discs is aftermarket calipers vs stock. Nothing wrong with a stock from a manufactured vehicle and the aftermarket must meet federal guidelines or exceed them and prove their engineering. Wilwood are 4 or 6 piston not a 2 piston and to me that’s important and one of the reasons they work so well on our 50’s cars. The stock two piston also seems to need power ***ist where the 4 piston which are smaller in diameter can do quite well with a smaller MC diameter and foot pedal ratio. If unstprung weight is an issue to you, aluminum is lighter than steel also. It’s all a matter of choice which I’m glad we have. Yes, Granda spindles lower your car 2+”. If your already lowered like I was with AeroStar springs it would be too much for me personally. Good luck.
Not sure what your converting but there is a thread about on the 57Fords site. Some use the wilwood kit. There is also a scarebird kit. if you want to keep stock 14. You need to find 14” granada wheels they have a larger hub hole. or you machine the little extra on the new hubs. It looks like a scarebird has a kit that can use stock wheels. The trick is to get the right master either power or non power to match the setup. I just saw, looks like you have a '56 https://www.wilwood.com/BrakeKits/B...ord&model=Fairlane&option=Base&axle=Front+Kit I guess I miss-spoke 56 have stock 15" so... I think you still should know your hub hole diameter. here is the scarebird kit, they give you a list and you can buy local or order on rockauto. https://scarebird.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=65&product_id=91
