From the “mod” apparel and all of those “caravans” in the background, I’d venture a guess that’s not Pomona.

Probably seen before, but interesting chassis w/ engine serving as structural member

Seems like awful small header tubes, even for back then. Those big oval ports in the heads gotta be choked off.
And yeah, I wonder what the frame looked like behind the engine. Sorry, but it looks kinda scary from the firewall forward !

P.s. - Seems to me I saw a chassis similar to that at one of the Grand National car shows here a few years back. I'll dig through my photos, see if I can find it.

  10. Maybe it,s one of those small British Daimler Hemis. All those caravans in the background sure look British. Same for the skinny dudes with sideburns o_O

It was taken in the UK. NHRA altereds class lettering would be something like AA/FA or AA/A

I like it. It looks to incorporate motorcycle technology which places the engine as a stressed member of the chassis.
    I wonder how it handled?
I guess I probably know how it handled - like every other AA/Fuel Altered - on the ragged edge of control LOL.

When you see the famous picture of the Magic Muffler Fiat at Lions, it makes you think that using the engine as a stressed member of the chassis in a nitro burner is not a very good idea. I’m thinking maybe that nice little Bantam was a gas burner - small fuel lines and small tube zoomies, or a Daimler.

Regarding the article on UK altereds, "SHUTDOWN" seems to picture a more standard engine/chassis

My car is not a F/A car but with a Larry Bell(Salisbury, N.C.) built 383, solid lifter sbc in a 2000 lb coupe it can be a hand full when you put your foot in it!! A very good way to spend my retirement years............

I just posted in the ESSMAN thread a very early video in color of the HARTWELL Altered. It's about 1963 era as the dark purple Magic Muffler Fiat is seen at about 1 minute mark with Jim Miles in the straw hat.
