Redoing the fuel system on our '40 chevy p/u with a SBC. Its tricky to get the inlet/outlet situated without kinks and sharp bends in the lines.
I have an AC BJ40159 pump that looks promising as it has threaded fittings on the pump that might make plumbing easier. I've searched the 'net and can't find out what this pump is for, it looks SBC but not certain? Would like to know what year it's for so I can search for a new pump that has the same fittings. Trying to avoid a more expensive pump that has the "clockable" lower housing.
Additionally - the sbc pumps that have 3 fittings. Is the third a vent or return line? Is it okay to just cap it off and run it?? Thanks-

Yes the small third fitting is a return line to bleed Off fuel pressure

I had a pump with third outlet. Put a soft cap on it with a small zip tie. Never had a problem.

Pictures of your 40159??? The number is usually around the edge of the mounting flange.

What he said. Helpful fact, many pump housings serve multiple engines, and the arm and a few related differences allow their use. I've run into this a time or 10. Looks close but...o_O The number @Jokester talks about is the direct fit number vs a inventory or stock number. Look close, easy to miss.

As already pointed out the 1/4 inch line is a return. That style pump was usually on cars with A/C. It was a common practice back in the day when a car was having fuel starvation problems ( especially in hot weather ) to cap that line off and solve the problem. I haven't done hundreds but I have done a few.

    If I'm not mistaken that's a 59 283 type. Be back after a look.

Wait a minute! Is this even a V8 pump. Pump arm wrong and ports are 180 off. L6 fuel pump or an AC replacement for another manufacture?

  13. That does look like a 6cyl pump. Look at a Carter M4891, V8 it’s indexable and fairly cheap ($57 at Amazon).
