I am re doing the door panels on my 49 Buick. The panels have a metal strip attached to the bottom of the panel that fits into a strip welded to the door bottom. Mine are all rusted. Where can I get these strips, so I don't have to make them?

I can't swear to it , but I think your Buick door skin folded over the inner panel lip & was spot welded just as a more modern door skin is attached ....of there are strips they're part of a repair IMO ...

Not the door skin, but the inner door trim panel.

  5. Agree with 2OLDFAST. Bend up a Cleve and use some Panel bond adhesive and glue to back of your panel. Hooks on bottom and couple of push pins or screws hold the sides. Window trim on top.

  6. getmetals has expanded steel u channel edging in 18ga with either 1/16, 1/8, or 1/4 opening and sold by the foot.
A little tall at 1", but easily cut down to the height needed.

BJR Look at post 170 on my build thread. Are you talking about the SS strip at the lower part of the door which separates the carpet from the vinal part of the upholstery on the door panel? If so, I may have some extra's. My panels, while redesigned tuck and roll are basically stock configurations.

Or, do you mean a metal strip behind the door panel at the bottom? Do you have a picture of the old ones?

You might look at your local lumber yard for a suitable molding.

I think he's looking for the the small channel the panel sits in. Metal Super market should have 1/4-3/8 channel to glue or spot weld.

it may seem like a daunting task, but, its a really easy repair, (unless the door bottom is rusted away too) A sheet metal brake, to make the slightest bend, Or even a hammer & dolly on the bench. They were spot welded originally, but, you could use any number of fasteners to adhere it to the door. (jb weld, self tapping screws, rivets etc)

I need the strip that fastens to the back of the upholstered door panel that interlocks with a strip welded to the bottom inside face of the door. Mine were all rusted.

Do away with it and attach it with regular clips.

If it is the type that looks like it had "nails" that went into a rectangle shaped hole, like a slot?,,thats what my caddy has,i thought about using the studs that are for a uni-spotter dent puller, bend up a strip of thin metal to bend over the bottom of the panel and use the stud gun to attach the pins, hard to explain but hopefully you get what i mean.you could do it in one strip or cut some 2 inch strips and try it in sectionsyou want to bend them over and have them "lock in place".it is doable just will take a bit of practice. harvey

If you cant find or make that piece, a strip of industrial velcro will hold the bottom of that door panel in place quick and easy. Pretty damn strong too !

I can't weld that to a plastic door panel. I need a source of the piece that goes to the REMOVABLE door panel.
