I love old go karts. My brother, cousin ,and I spent countless hours burning up our "track" every summer. Between the 3 of us we had 4 karts, one was for back up. My dad had a road cut through the woods with a dozer, we used it for a track. He would get us a 5 gallon can of gas, and we'd cut loose. I picked this one up today, I thought that my daughters would enjoy it. I didn't need another project, but it is small. I thought that I would do a build thread on it. I believe we will call it "Blue Streak". It's gonna be blue and white. I have a Superior 500 steering wheel that has been waiting on a project. It will be the center piece. These pics are what I'm starting with.
So its been a few weeks.... I have made some progress on the rebuild. I borrowed a blaster cabinet, and started to blast some of the small parts ie , spindles, wheels, pedals. I also ordered tires. I went for the slicks. I think they look nicer than the a/t version.
Rupp Dart. Love the wheels! Like a little version of the Pontiac 8 lug. You should check out the DIY Go Karts site. Over there they live for all things go kart!
There's a basket case of a Rupp gc on my local Craigslist right now, but I do mean basket case, and guy wants 750 for it. I'm waiting to see if he drops to a reasonable amount for how bad it is.
I used to mow my grandmother's lawn for a dollar. A quart of oil, a gallon of white gas, a coke and a fudgsicle, and I was broke again. But the kart was good to go for another two weeks!
I made a little more progress tonite. I blasted and painted the rear wheels and front spindles. Im about to wrap up the small parts.
