So the add is claiming this 39/40 chopped ford is a Barris build.
I’ve seen the nerf bars before somewhere but can’t place it B42321D4-ADED-4841-9BFB-C06E3DDE1378.jpeg 6B374BE9-60E7-4830-A1F7-64491D32A635.jpeg

IDK about this one, but a few years ago I posted a Merc ad from Craigslist claiming it was a Barris built car. I should have screenshot it as later that part had been removed from the ad.

I would be "im-Barris'd" to drive it looking like that;).

Me, because if it isn't, it's a lie. And I don't like liars.

is this a normal price for a project or inflated by the Barris inclusion ?

Barris history is doubtful. $55k for basket case old ‘40 ridiculous.

Exactly why he's name dropping. I wouldn't give 55 for that.... Nope.

Looks like they did the spray-foam insulation in that garage with the car and all of it's parts laying on the floor.

  17. Well chopping a 39/40 coupe and not butching it is nearly impossible and Sam Barris pretty much perfected it. I do not know if the car is a Barris build but after 50 years or so a lot could have been changed. I would take the body though, I can do pretty much anything I set out to do but I am not yet ready to chop a 39/40 coupe.

If you're claiming providence it needs to be supported by do***ents / photographs, a flippant reference is easy to make however the seller is honest with a disclaimer, 'The previous owner reported that this 1940 Ford coupe had been customized by Barris Kustom and this was reportedly confirmed at the time. No do***entation confirming the customizer has been found.'

That car is a pile of ifs and buts. With an extra large helping of could bees and maybes on the side.

So if I am understanding this correctly it was posted for sale with those pictures but it is actually a pile of parts un***embled? If it is, I hate ads like that, why I never bid on cars online just by pictures only unless I am paying less than s**** price.

a friend recently looked at an old car from the 40's that looked freshly stripped in raw metal in the ad picture saying no rust but when he saw it in person, yes, it was stripped but many years ago and left to rot. He would have never looked at it if the seller took a recent picture.

Another short story. I was cruising that auction site and came upon 4 Hudsons for sale for not a bad group price close to my area that looked not too bad. Something was odd about the pictures and then it hit me when I looked at the background, recognized where it was at. The pictures had this truck in the background but the problem is I brought that truck over 10 years ago before this auction listing.

So I was going to a house demolition sale that following week and it took me close to that property so I did a detour to see them. Nothing like the auction pictured show, pile of rust, roofs caved in, gr*** grown up around them. The picture was when they were probably first parked there. I would have been upset if I drove hours away just to see them, luckily I was only doing a fast drive by anyways on my way to the auction.

I don't dislike the car, though I'd change some things, but 55? For that? That's the kicker for me. Forget about not in the same ballpark, that price isn't even in the parking lot. My counter offer would only piss him off, and I don't do that. If someone's asking price is that out of whack I thank them and move on.

Same if they offer me something terribly low on something I'm selling. I sold an ot car a few years back and a dirt ball and his dueling banjos buddy came over, told me the car had all kinds of things wrong with it (it didn't, and I was selling it at an already great price to move it, next guy bought it on sight), and made me a 50% what I was asking for offer. I thanked him for driving out to see it and said this isn't the car for you, have a nice day. He said whoa whoa whoa, we're talking here! And I said no, you don't understand forgive me: now you CAN'T buy the car. Have a nice day...

It pricey but I still appreciate seeing them shared here...Many I share have been sold years ago, it's more for the period details and cool factor. I hear you though if you were serious you might be able to offer less then half and walk away with it...if it's that outrageous you stand a good chance of snagging it...just have to wait it out...

  25. I’d like to see under that headline. If San Barris chopped it, should be easy to determine if he didn’t.

I wish they kept the split rear window but a 41 to 48 window is a common swap. I like the chop. Its a tough one to do I know ive done it. That car on 16" wheels, skirts with the *** dragging and painted one color would have 10 trillion likes on here. I bet thats a 70s or 80s build which to me is just fine. I think theres alot of good there but the price? Yikes!

  28. The one that makes me laugh is when you see an add and the main pic is a nicely ***embled car .

then you click on the add and the car is a pile of rusted parts , no drive train and no ownership or ***le papers .

Then at the bottom of the add you get the disclaimer “ the first pic is to show what this car can be if built “
    Lol

kinda like “ ran when parked “

there is a car listed locally , cool muscle car , big block 4 speed . But completely rotted out . No engine or trans , the car looks like they dragged it out if a swamp !!Your basically buying the tags and whatever trim you can salvage .

It’s listed as a COPO car , you can only imagine what the asking price is :D

It’s $30,000 cheaper now. Says it’s going to Ebay in two days. I bet it won’t meet reserve.
