  9. That looks like Bill Boyer, one of Ford's designers who was involved with Thunderbird design from the beginning through the '80s. I had the pleasure to interview him in 1994 when I was working on my first T-bird history book.

My wife owned a '55 Mainline 2-dr which had Pontiac trim like the one pictured. She drove it to work for a while, and one day she had a business card stuck under the one of the wipers. On the back it said, like you car, you want to sell it. She ignored it, but the next day there was another card. Same thing.... This went on for a couple weeks before she called the guy. He really wanted the old Ford, asked how much it would take for her to part with it. She pulled a really high number from never never land and he accepted with a smile. Once the deal was made, he laughed and said he had really gotten to her. How might that be, she asked. Well he says, you obviously don't know much about old Fords, 'cause this is one rare critter. They only made a few with that special side trim, and it's worth a whole lot more than I paid you for it.. Oh well, she lamented, sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose.
We say the critter at Pleasanton a year later, and you know, that expert had removed that rare trim. Imagine that !!
