Anyone know if Arizona allows replica plates? Dad had his California black and yellow stolen by the police when they recovered his Beetle and upset him until he p***ed. I inherited and like to use the tag digits on a 1964 YOM plate. TIA
Yup! Just verify with the AZDOT that the plate digits aren't already in use and apply online. 'Tis easy to do. But...IIRC, Arizona didn't offer "1964" plates, just plates with the '64 sticker...
64 was indeed a year for a new plate. I have no idea if they allow replica plates....legally....but if you apply for a personalized plate with the number you want, and get it in the mail and put the sticker on the replica old plate, and put it on the car, the odds of anyone ever giving you **** about it are pretty small. Talk to your lawyer first. also beware that with the new bizarre numbering scheme they are using, lots of old numbers are no longer available. it ****s.
One does not have to goto the DMV when checking for a plate to use.. AZ MVD Now <----- Go there and look up plate number and see if in use. If NOT in use you can get those numbers. I went to a 3rd party DMV to get my 34 plate registered, Helps to have a knowledgeable person behind the counter.
Sometimes tough to get the correct county for where you live.. AZ had plates per county.. I have a Yavapai county on mine, Where I live, got lucky also...
1959 was the year Arizona changed from having a county letter, to using three letters and three numbers, with no reference to county.
Do you know it's from Coconino county because of something on the plate itself, or do you just know it's history?
FYI, the plate guy is at a swap meet 1st Sunday every month at the Glendale CC. That where I got my 66 plate for my off topic Plymouth. Had no problem regeresting them at a private licensing office. Also the plate guy will be at Good Guys this coming weekend.
Lots of information at azplates.com but I cannot find my 1924 az C-10-1 plate . I believe it is a county government plate from Mohave county
I do, Squirrel. MVD has a list of which plates were ***igned to each county when the stare went to the 3 alphabet/3 number plates. Took me almost 2 years to find a Coconino plate for 1964
Dan, that guy is from Prescott and has some nice stuff. I have a friend in Wickenburg that I but from and sell to.
It would seem that the sooner a guy applies for a YOM plate the better, to beat the new system ***igning that number to a new plate. I wonder if they ever give out a new plate whose number has been ***igned to a YOM plate? It might be tough keeping it all straight.
they do give out numbers that were used on previous plates.. I was talking to a friend who deals in plates, he said it's getting bad...plates he's had for a while suddenly are worthless as YOM.
