I have a 53 that looks to be lowered when comparing it to other cars online. The obvious is block in the rear and spindles in front but if springs were used or leafs were pulled what would be the best way to know. Does someone have stock heights to the wheel well tops or maybe the springs were made in such a way they can be ID. The problem is I want to lowered the car but don't want to buy a new kit and find out that it's the same as what I had. I think I might just toss blocks in the rear to take a little more out and try to find good pictures of oem spindles.
This is from the FAQ's, there's a world of info there. https://mainlineford.wordpress.com/2016/02/02/dropping-the-front-end/
If you post some pics of the front springs, lower coil bucket, and spindle area we could probably tell you if anything has been done.
Yes, I agree. A picture is worth a thousand words. On a 53 Ford there is a number of ways to lower the front. Cut the coil springs, replace the coil springs with shorter ones, also there are manufacturers that make King Pin Uprights with relocated spindle supports, and in the old days they would swap sides on the King Pin Uprights and turn them upside down and reinstall spindles and the car would be lower. You would have to heat the upright and bend it to get the camber right. I have never performed this particular thing but my brothers have. Hope this helps
I have a set of stock '53 front coil springs in my pile to take to the recycler. Just pulled them out and counted. They have 9 coil rounds.
Just my 2 cents, but I like it where it's at now. Any lower and you may have issues if it already doesn't have them.
Perfect, mine have 9 coils and is 28" so the front is stock. However I really need to figure out the rear. I also like the stance but the issue is it has air shocks with 0 pressure. I just want to get it done correctly. I know pulling springs makes for a ****py ride. I plan on driving this thing so I would really like to go with something legit on the back.
