Y'all-- Not that you need an example of how good the members make the HAMB, but here's another one: Months ago, we started planning the next issue of GARAGE. As you can imagine, there's more at stake for us now than ever before, so if a story doesn't get produced... We hadn't done an "Out Of Town" piece for many issues. Mainly, because for us to do it right, it takes the efforts of lots of folks who would need to give up their time (and gas money) for not much more of a reason than just the promise of a feature in an upcoming issue of GARAGE. So, with all this in mind, we planned a trip to Louisville for the next "Out Of Town" feature. If you remember, I had put out the call here on the board to see if we could round up some folks and their cars. To make a successful 'OOT,' we'd need at least 1 or 2 cars to run us around town, showing us what's what and where car guys (and chicks) eat, drink and be merry (or Mary, if you're in San Francisco). I got in touch with our own **** Reynolds and he said, "You comin' to Kentucky? Sure, I think I can help out." I also got some help from our new pals, Sue and Josh McNally--a photography/PR dyamic duo who live, eat and breathe all things Looeyville. We landed in town on Friday, met Josh and he said, "So, how many cars we gettin'?" Good question. "Hopefully, we'll see at least 2 cars show up," I said. But we all know how this stuff goes: a water pump takes a ****, carb's not getting fuel for some reason, the motor's out of the car, can't decide between the Daytons or the steelies...you know how it goes (right, ****?). Anything and everything can keep a car from showing up for an event or a shoot. That's just the way it goes and believe me, I can appreciate that. Saturday morning, we come down the hotel lobby and HOLY ****. There are 13 CARS and a *****in' BIKE waiting for us! I had gotten a cryptic email from **** the night before saying that he had put the call out for us, but I still wasn't going to get my hopes up for more than just Sam and his neat '56. And we had a blast. Between lunch for 30 of us at Lynn's, a run to Heaven Hill distillery where we met up with Dice and his family (which includes a RIGHTEOUS '47 Ford custom and a pee-wee named Jing), not to mention a generous bourbon-tasting with a 23 year-old, $350 bottle of Evan Williams and some real Southern Hospitality from Shawn at his one-of-a-kind garage (and his insane collection of hot rod history), we just couldn't get enough of Louisville and everyone who showed up to help us out. There's much more to come in this next issue of GARAGE, but I wanted to give you a taste of our great weekend and if y'all are reading this, thanks again for making GARAGE complete. At the risk of sounding like Jessica Simpson at the Teenie Awards, we're nothing without you. Sniff.
Can't figure out the movie file yet, but Raquel (who took these "production shots") is gonna help me do that. More to come... STONER
Dan,,thanks again, man ,seriously,it was so awesome to be apart of the shoot... i gotta tell you man,,,the whole rod run was really *****in,,running wild in the streets of louisville with the pack of guys was better than ANY car show i have been to in years and years! ..so when are we gonna do this again?
Hey, ****-- Glad you had a good time and can't thank you enough for helping set everything up! And here's a link to a quick video that Raquel shot as y'all were leaving the Heaven Hill Distillery on Saturday. I think I got a little misty-eyed as everyone drove away... http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7765458939957000009
Well, Out Of Town used to be a regular feature in GARAGE and we're bringing it back--it's our way of not only doing a travel feature, but showcasing all the great stuff going on OUTSIDE of California. Hey, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else but SF, but as a dyed-in-the-plaid East Coaster, I've always wanted to make sure that the rest of us got good coverage, too... So, if you have some suggestions, lemme know! We have a wishlist for our next towns to visit, but make us add yours to the list...
Dan, I had a great time! I think that all the mags should do something similiar- Kevin, Jim ???? I can't wait to see the next issue, but how do you top Tera Patrick on the cover from the last issue?? Rich
