    Gen V did away with the boss and went to non adjustable valve train(moot point with the Edelbrock heads), Gen VI had the the fuel pump boss re-introduced.

    Worth knowing is Mark IV and Gen 5 oil pans do not interchange, probably due to the one piece rear seal on the newer blocks. Also it is possible to install a Mk IV crank in the later block with a seal adapter. Gen 5 has improved oiling and the blocks are tapped for oil cooler lines.

    I gave up on modern stuff in that era, save for the dreaded LS.

    Has to be a Gen VI block then. It should have a roller cam. In his case it might be worth seeing what cam it actually is, since someone has been doing some work on this thing.

    I think the timing cover tells us it's the later block, too.

    Early Gen VI didn't have the provision either, it was like mid year or something
