I have a '53 Sunliner Convertible that the hood doesn't lay down/sit. The right rear by cowl (p***enger side) doesn't sit down on its own..I can push it down, and all of the reveals are nice, but it springs back up, when I take my hands off it. I'm wondering if there is an adjustment I can do, or, is a new hood spring in my future?
Yes, there is an adjustment on the hood hinge arm that is located toward the front of the car but you must have the thick factory serrated washer between the hood and the arm in order for the adjustment to hold. ***uming that you have the washer in place, loosen the bolt on the end of the arm. Go to the front of the hood and raise the front as high as you can without putting too much strain the hinges while you have an ***istant tighten the hinge bolt. If this doesn't lower the upper corner of the hood then you probably have worn out hinge pins and need to rebuild or replace that hinge. Good luck, Alan S. Freeman
Thanks for the responses..it's appreciated. Alan Freeman, that was excellent advice, I did that adjustment, and the hood now sits as it should..Thank you.
