It's official. I took my last ride in my RPU yesterday. I dropped it off to the trucking company that's taking it to California. A guy from the Pasadena area bought it. The good news is I paid for the 32 coupe and just have to wait for the snow to melt to get it. Clark
Hope it's going to a good home. I love that RPU. Great Work. And those photos of it on the track (mudfest?) even made my wife smile!! Looks like the most fun I've seen in years.
Clark, I don't know what you will build next, maybe the '32, but I doubt if anything will give you the grins the rpu gave you. We've seen you engulfed in smoke, mud and everything else and the grin on your face is always there. I for one will miss it.
Well, judging by the stuff you guy's build, i'm sure the '32 will be a great ride when your done! I really liked that truck though! I'm glad you gave me the opportunity to cruise it around York last year! Thanks!! good luck with the new project. Tony..
Mark my words. In 40 yrs. that truck will be re-featured in a magazine and will be worth one hell of a lot more than you sold it for. Viva So-What!
I'll miss seeing the RPU,and look forward to seeing the 32.Let me know if you need my help getting it.
Don't worry the 32 will get covered in mud, snow and whatever else I can get into. Hope to pick it up next weekend. Now if I can just get it running for the MUD RUN!! Clark
I had the great pleasure of meeting Larry Garland and Clark "Norman" Bates while shooting that truck (And Larry's as well..) in 2001 (CKD #8). Since then Ive seen it in sub-freezing cold, totally caked in mud, and everything in between. I've even driven it a couple of times. The East coast will miss that little RPU. One of my favorite photographs is of the RPU taken at Latimore, at speed, kicking up mud with Clark at the wheel and a drunken Duck riding shotgun. At least it will never have to make anymore Posies runs in January..
After years of great cars leaving it nice to see one coming to California. I've always wanted to see that car in the flesh. Pasadena is a great hot rod town (Blair's speed Shop, etc.). Plus, great roadster weather. Can't wait to see what you build next. Good luck. -stick
Be honest Clark, you had a tear in your eye when you saw it go away..didn't you? What wheels did it leave with? What headlights? Spike
It's in the back of a U-haul on it's way to Cali right now isn't. The new project is going to be cool I am picking my new project up in a couple of weeks.
I'm going to miss seeing it around as well. I feel lucky to have gotten a couple of rides in it last year. Thanks bud. Spike, do you think I could get a high resolution photo sent to my email of the Clark and Duck in the mud one? Thanks
Clark, I know how hard it is to let something go like that. I'm glad to have gotton to see it in person once. Good luck with your 32, I know it gonna be wicked. later plmczy
It will always's be Clark's "SoWhat" truck, even if someone paints it... Thanks for letting me take it on a couple spins Clark, even that first time up at Road Agents when I hardly knew you guys, and for letting me be drunken shotgun at the Jalopy Showdown. I'll have good memories of that little truck for a long time... -Duck
Good for you clark...glad i got a ride in it before it left..can't wait to see how the 32 ends up. tok
