March 25-26, 2022 will bring the Parts Meet sponsored by the Sugarloaf Mountain Region of the AACA to the AG Center in Westminster, MD. This is a 2-day swap meet with indoor and outdoor vendors. The indoor arena is climate controlled. There is a nominal admission fee ($2, I think) and plenty of free parking.
dual quad BBC manifold w/ linkage & air cleaner. A few other things, pics when I'm in the shop later.
I went, I saw, I was disappointed. It was more than an hour and a half drive to get there. This is my third time going. I will go no more. There was little if any stuff that interested me. I will drive 5 hours to get to a good swap meet, but not an hour and a half to go to a poor one.
Different strokes , …. I got a great deal on a set of 15-inch 1938 Chevy artillery wheels, and a nice armload of 1946 Chevy truck parts. I sold enough junk I didn’t want to pay for my purchases. I think that is the essence of a swap meet- and you get to see old friends and make new ones. If you want a huge, hulking thing- we’ll see you at Carlisle. Can’t be more than 30 minutes from your home!
Well, here's the crap I dragged home. Someone please tell me about the steering wheel. What with tomorrow being 3/27, I couldn't pass on the L79 air cleaner
Hey, I did ok at the New Jersey AACA swap meet near Cowtown today. Of course, 39 degrees and an 18mph wind does create wind chill!
4 wheels for $50 on the sticker is a great deal! Paid that much for a pair of 15x6 steelies recently.
What makes you think I paid $50? It’s a swap meet. I offered him $40 and he snatched it from my hand. Then I made 2 trips about 1/8 mile each to get them to my truck. They are correct for 1938-46 Chevy cars and trucks, and we’re also used on early Airstream trailers. They won’t last the first day at Hershey. The ‘46 GMC grille was even better. I have a donor grille at home to substitute the 2 lower bars and it will be ready to paint.
Never said you paid that. Only that the advertised price was a good deal. Ten bucks apiece and free exercise! Great score, knowing your parts pays off, for sure.
Keep your warm clothes handy. This Saturday is the Spring Swap at Maple Grove Raceway. 50% race parts, 50% old iron. Always an enjoyable morning.
Yes, Carlisle is less than 1/2 hour from my house. I still drive 5-6 1/2 hours to go to meets in Connecticut, and Fitchburg, Massachusetts. IMO it is worth the trip.
I guess you weren't set up to sell? I went on Friday and thought I might run into you, being so close to home. Hope you're doing well.
We made another trip around the sun; and the Sugarloaf Mountain Region Parts Meet is March 24-25, 2023 in Westminster, MD. It is held at the Shipley Arena at the AG Center. The large parking lot was finally paved- so great parking is available.
Might go Friday...and for those guy's interested, Cowton NJ is at the Salem County fairgrounds on March 26th. Also, just heard yesterday, Mason Dixon Dragway opening day is next Saturday, 3/18/23, with a swap meet. Gene.
Check that- the old Cowtown show at the Salem County Fairgrounds in NJ is Sunday March 26. That’s the day after the Ag Center meet. Thanks for the reminder about the Mason Dixon Raceway swap meet. I went last year and it seems to be growing.
Cowtown: Great event. A small fortune in tolls coming from Maryland. A bit of a traffic bottleneck getting in. If the weather is decent, lots of vendors both inside and outside. Looking forward to a nice sunny day. Fingers crossed.
AACA parts meet. Westminster. Cold and wet outside, fairly nice inside. Open Friday and Saturday. Yes, the former home of Jalopyrama in its hay days. Let’s bring it back!
Rather than go to the Westminster, Maryland swap meet, I went to the Mason-dixon drag-way swap meet last Saturday. We arrived late, about 8:30 AM. There were at least 3 vendors selling early parts. I did well buying from them. Most of the vendors were drag racers selling their parts. I will definitely go again next year, but earlier in the morning
Picked up a couple of things. Gauges in a cool grooved panel, an AC handheld tachometer and a Goodyear Polyglas G78-15 that I'm going to pair up with an orphan Motor Wheel Spyder.
Hey, I did both. I went to Mason Dixon early Saturday, and made some great buys. That included a solid pair of ‘28-‘29 Model-A headlights. They were missing the lenses, but had nice nickel bezels. Today at Westminster I came upon a pair of sealed beam conversions. And a few of the things I bought a Mason Dixon I resold today at Westminster.
