Owner says it was built in 65. So right at the very end of the time frame here. Supposedly campaigned until 69. Sitting since.
Please post this to the Vintage Sprint Car Thread. Very cool. Features - VINTAGE SPRINT CAR PIC THREAD, 1965 and older only please. | The H.A.M.B. (jalopyjournal.com)
Now that's a race car! Look at the bolt on cage. I bet it started out with just a hoop behind the driver. CAE cars were set up with both, as USAC didn't require cages until late 60's. What is the engine in it?
If this is real, that’s a great deal. Hilborn injection, magneto, magnesium wheels quick change plus the tons of other cool parts
Holy ****! That thing must have been a handful back in the day... I don't think the seller knows about sprint cars. That's a CAE in/out box down there between the pedals. I got one from a friend last summer. It's sitting in the garage as I type. You buying?
Nope. Just sharing. It’s super cool. I’m a low and slow kinda guy. it’s an in and out box. I looked for the ad, may have sold already. The box did have made in Calvert on it
Man, that seems really cheap if it's the real deal. It will make a nice addition to someone's collection.
I'm going to have to look at mine and see what is cast on it. I've been looking for a clutch drive input shaft for it. It's currently direct drive with a Chevy crank hub. I'd prefer the clutch drive setup even though it's more m*** to spin up. I'll find one eventually.
Great car ! I think it's too long to be a Sprint. Since it is out of Kansas, I would bet it is what they call, "A Hunerd Inch Car", like they ran at Hutchison Kansas, referred to as "Hutch".
A friend of mine stopped by the shop today and showed me the ad. I only saw the main photo but also thought "What a deal!" After he left I got wondering how old the photo might have been and what the car looks like currently, but looking at all of the photos now they appear to be pretty recent. Crazy that it's not sitting in a dusty, dirt-floor shed and listed for $68,000, instead of being all cleaned up and listed at $6800. Lynn
The owner mentioned it raced in Kansas. He had the builders/drivers name. Can’t find the ad. I’m sure it sold fast or he took it down because of the price.
Yes, it does look like there is a LOT of space in front of the engine......even a dirt car does not look like that.
Kansas Auto Racing Museum – preserving the celebration of speed Contact this museum. They have a ton of info on Kansas racecar builders and drivers - dirt, drags, you name it.
That car has made it's way to the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum in Knoxville. Photo taken today.
Thought I took pictures of all the information signs for each car, but of course not this one. It could be a 100" car or a NCRA Supermodified, but part of the reason that it looks so long in the nose is that the radiator and front drive setup on the engine are missing. Looks like there was also a side panel that's gone. Here's a pic of a late 70s Trostle car. It's not much longer from the front of the engine to the axle. They also could have moved the front axle ahead since it's running a 396. A big block in a ch***is designed for a small block would have too much weight on the front wheels. You have to think that in 1965 when that car was built a 396 with Hilborn injection had to be state of the art.
That space in front of the engine was usually filled with a McGurk tri-drive or at least a Hilborn injector pump and lines.
